Looking for a good night out in Colombo — 2010s music + dancing + food

Hey everyone!

Planning a night out with a few friends in Colombo and looking for recommendations.

Basically, we want a place where we can have some drinks, dance, eat good food, and just have a proper fun night. 😄

The main thing is the music — we're looking for that late 2000s / early 2010s English music vibe: Pitbull, Jlo, Akon, Ne-Yo, Usher, Flo Rida, Black Eyed Peas, etc. Basically music that makes you want to get on the dance floor 😂

We're specifically looking for English songs only — no Sinhala or other language music.

We're flexible with the date, so what's the best night/date to go for this kind of vibe? Are there specific nights or events in Colombo where they play this type of music?

Also, I'm kinda new to going out. So how do you guys find out about these happening nights or events? Because I've been to some places which are not that good. Is there a particular Instagram/Facebook page, DJ, club, or event page that posts about 2000s/2010s throwback nights? How yall follow up?

And which clubs/bars in Colombo would you recommend for this kind of vibe?

Bonus points if the place has good food as well.

Thanks! 🙌

Genuinely Curious: Why is lane blocking by parked cars tolerated in Colombo?

I recently saw a Facebook video showing a parked car blocking an entire lane on Galle Road. It made me realize this isn't an isolated incident. I've seen it happen in many places around Colombo.

One example is in front of St. Peter's College in galle road, after around 12 p.m. Parents park along the road while waiting to pick up their children, and it often blocks one or more lanes. Sometimes the queue of parked cars stretches all the way towards the Savoy 3D Cinema junction. I've also noticed similar situations in the morning.

I frequently come from Dharmarama Road and turn right onto Galle Road. There have been several occasions where a parked parent's car has obstructed my view or lane, leading to a few close calls.

My question is: Is this actually allowed by the police, or is it simply not being enforced? If it's illegal, why does it seem to happen every school day without any action?

I'm genuinely curious whether there's a legal exception for school pickup/drop-off times or if this is just something everyone has accepted. I asked from my colleagues but no one has an answer.
