I’m so sick and tired of paying my TTC fare

Almost every time I’ve tapped to get on the subway this week, someone’s either tailgated me, someone tapping on beside me, or just pushed their way through the gates. TTC employees do nothing.

Why am I working full time for nearly minimum wage, working myself to exhaustion to keep a roof over my head, meanwhile unhoused people and addicts can just get a free ride with no consequences whenever they please? I’m tired of fare inspectors targeting and punishing working class folks for what is half the time honest mistakes, but letting others get away with whatever they want. I’m so tired of the TTC.

AIO for being upset that my parents make me show them my pay stubs?

I 23(F) unexpectedly moved to a big city almost exactly 3 years ago to complete my university degree. At the time I was 20 years old, had no credit score and was only working about 20 hours a week at a restaurant.

Because of this, it would have been merely impossible to get approved for an apartment with just my name on the lease. My parents were kind to help me and applied for an apartment with their income history and credit and had put my father’s name on the lease (he doesn’t live here though, it is just me and one roommate 25(F)).

While I was in school, my parents were generously helping me out by paying for half my share of rent as they wanted me to focus on school and only work part time during the school year. Part of a verbal agreement I had with my parents was that I would show them my pay stubs each pay period to prove I was working and earning money if I was going to live at this apartment and have them help with half my share of rent. Over the next 3 years I sent them my pay stubs each pay period and always paid my share on time.

Fast forward to 3 years later, I have recently finished school a few months ago and my parents have fully stopped financially supporting me. For the past 2 months, I’ve been working full time at a new job and am fully supporting myself financially. I have also built up my own credit score which is currently sitting at the “good” level.

I am still living at the same apartment. I recently asked my parents if they’d like me to still send them my pay stubs as the situation is different now, and that I feel like I’d like some financial privacy and independence. I explained that I am now working full time and fully supporting myself, so there doesn’t seem to be reason for me to show my earnings to them now. To make this long story somewhat shorter, they completely flipped (mostly my mother). My mother says I’m being entitled and basically saying “f*** you” after all they have done for me. She says that because my father’s name is also on the lease they have every right to see how much money I’m making. I don’t understand this though, as I have never been late on my rent payments and would certainly tell them if a problem came up. My mother claims since my father had to prove his income to get this place, I should to them too.

I stopped fighting with them and am still continuing to show them my pay stubs, but I can’t help but feel irritated. I’ve drawn back from conversing with my mother over text because I feel like despite being a full grown adult and supporting myself now, I’m still being treated as I was 3 years ago and that I have no privacy over my finances. AIO?
