Just curious, as for me tbh not really I just play what I’m interested at the moment.

For example, Sins of Kaleido was released recently, but I don’t have an immediate interest to play it even if you give it to me for free it would end up in my library to play later.

Right now I’m playing 9RIP, I’m about to start Seiya’s route, and when I’m done with the game I already decided to play Piofiore, even if the game released 6 years ago, and the lasted game I brought isn’t a recent one neither, it’s another game released years ago.

There was a time where I did that with animes because I wanted to keep up, but there was just too many release and so little time, I overconsumed anime to the point of burnt out and stopped anime for years before slowly going back again to it.

It was not even social pressure, I just didn’t wanted to be too behind on something I liked, so this time I’m being more careful with Otome games I can’t play every Otome games but I’ll play the ones that caught my eyes.

Personally 3 characters caught my eye:

Yoki, Sensitsu and Yiming, but if I had to pick only one Yoki, it’s a crime he wasn’t included lmao 

I have a lot to say on why they should be LI, but I’m keeping this post spoiler free cause I’m still playing the game, almost done though only one route remaining

I notice lately side guys have more screen time in Otome game compared to before when they were reduced to a few lines and no face or if they did had it their role was situational, but now you can clearly see them interact with the MC, sometimes implying romantic chemistry with the MC, others where it’s very obvious, which makes me frustrated when I play newer games on switch particularly where side characters have more impact and interactions with the MC, but we can’t date them.

But often I found out said game released a fan disk or are working on it, and the guys who were originally side characters are given proper routes, fan disks with newer routes are way more common today where before it was often just extra content with established LIs.

I tried to sit and think about it 

1)They are purposely not adding certains routes but imply chemistry between the MC and them to make the players long by feeding them crumb it’s completely intentional not just fan service, so when they finally release a fan disk, they’re sure to make profit.

2)They dont trust whenever or not this character will win players hearts and be profitable, but they still see potential so they include them to see if the playerbase particularly react to a few of them, and if successful they make sure to include them in the fan disk 

3)They just want to continue a successful license and adding extra routes from an already existing cast is less work and requires less budget than making a sequel with completely new characters.

I think it’s a bit of the 3 but I wanted to hear opinions, cause I notice this more than it did years ago, I have a strong suspicion no matter if it’s 1,2,3 or something else, the game industry realize games that target female can be profitable too, it’s just the strategy I’m trying to understand and if sadly Otome doesn’t risk to become too capitalized, Otome gacha are already capitalized and if something similar isn’t starting to happen too to full game release, I love fan disks release but I would hate characters to be locked behind them.

Otome community feel much better in overall social interaction than others gaming ones.

I have two theories, first one is low exposure, because specific famous Otome game fandom can be much more toxic like the LADS fandom and before Mystic Messenger, me and my close friend love LADS and Mystic Messenger, but we always avoided mainstream otome game fandoms because of that.

The second theory, we have less people trying to dictate what everyone should enjoy or not in a fiction, and even if there is a trope or character that make us personally uncomfortable, we understand that liking something in fiction isn’t the same as endorsing it in real life and doesn’t represent the true beliefs of a person.

I’m a tiny bit surprised because I always excepted specifically toxicity over characters “He is mine not yours!” ”No, he deserves better than you“ among general Otome fans, but to my surprise haven’t really saw that, just people bonding over liking the same character.
