I just received an ice cream maker, where do I begin?

I just received an ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchenaid and put the bowl in the freezer last night. I looked up recipes and found this one which seems like a good place to start. However, since it's just a list of ingredients I don't know what to do with them. Do I mix them before putting them in the maker? Can I make them ahead of time and refrigerate? How long do I put them in the maker? Do I add my mix-ins when the ice cream is done or when it's almost done?

The links on the sidebar post are somewhat overwhelming, but I noticed they said to freeze the maker bowl at -5°F. Will I be fine if it's only at 0°F?

I appreciate your replies and can't wait to make ice cream! I think this thing will see a lot of use.

Should I avoid Ballistic Advantage?

I'm gonna get a 10" barrel for my 10/22 soon and was looking at Acculite, but they're out of stock. BA has barrels in stock for about $50 less, but gestures at Aero. Should I take the gamble on the BA or just wait until Acculite is in stock? I'll have to wait until I SBR it anyway.

Edit: My other qualm with Acculite is that I don't know if the 0.920" barrel would work in my factory stock.

.38 Super Major power factor results

I've been scrambling to find a major power factor .38 Super load before a match yesterday and ended up with three contenders. I loaded them up and chronographed them, and here are the results if anybody else comes looking for a starting point:

My gun:

Springfield Prodigy with a 5" Sig Sauer .38 Super barrel and EGW bushing, Underworld arms Cyclops compensator, recoil spring from my .45 ACP, and Vortex Compdot. I used an Athlon Rangecraft chronograph and shot offhand (no rest).

The loads and results:

All loads are using Longshot powder, brand new Starline .38 Super +P brass, and 124gr Hornady XTPs. Major PF for a 124gr bullet is just over 1330 fps.

Load 1:

6.9gr Longshot, 124gr XTP, Winchester SPP, 1.255" OAL. 10 shot average velocity was 1263.4 fps.

This is 0.1gr over the max load for a 124gr bullet on Hodgdon's website.

Load 2:

6.9gr Longshot, 124gr XTP, CCI #400 SRP, 1.227" OAL. 9 or 10 shot average was 1312.4 fps.

This is just under the max load on Sierra's website, notably for their bullets, not an XTP.

Load 3:

8.4gr Longshot, 124gr XTP, Winchester SPP, 1.260" OAL. 10 shot average was 1462.9 fps.

This load came from u/Southern-Stay704 plugging my info into the reloading simulations. His info predicted a velocity between 1350 and 1380 fps at an OAL of 1.280" with pressures between 34,000 and 35,800 psi. I had to load shorter to fit in the magazine. I ultimately ran this load at the match and only had minor issues, described below.

Final thoughts:

I now have a bracket to work within for the SPPs and will probably explore that first, but I'm also interested in experimenting more with the SRP data from Sierra. While the recoil wasn't terrible with the 3rd load, it was almost certainly over SAAMI pressure of 36,500 psi. The only pressure signs I saw were slightly flattened primers and possible extractor or ejector marks. Despite that I loaded 270 rounds the night before the match without chronographing them (I knew they'd make major and didn't have time to do another batch after chronographing and before the match). The gun ran very well, but the Vortex Compdot died completely on stage 4 of the match.

I'm making this post to give someone else something to reference if they go looking for major PF loads, as well as warning them that the third load is probably too hot. Now that I have more time I'll do a better ladder test. I also want to thank u/Southern-Stay704 for all his help in my previous post on this topic.

I love my new Six Pack Pro

I used to use a Lee single stage press and would average between 50-100 rounds per hour. Because of this I kind of stopped reloading which meant I didn't shoot the guns I loaded for. I just got my Lee Six Pack Pro up and running and cranked out 270 rounds of .38 Super in an hour flat for a match tomorrow. I love this thing! Now I need to find an automatic bullet feeder...

Would an ereader work for me?

I've started reading on my break at work and it's a nice break from staring at a screen all day. However, the next series I want to read is only available via PDFs, ebooks, and a website. I don't really want to read on my phone, plus it'd be impossible to see in the sun. Are ereaders able to read PDFs and websites? Are they as easy on the eyes as a real book? I had a Kindle (Kindle Fire HD I think) many years ago and I think it's still at my parents' house if you think that'd work for me. I prefer to have physical books as much as possible, so aside from this series I probably wouldn't use it much.

Will Hornady XTPs substitute for Sierra JHPs?

I'm trying to scrounge together a major power factor .38 Super load before a USPSA match on the 12th and was given a good deal on 124gr Hornady XTPs. I have a PDF from Sierra where they get their 124gr JHP up to major with Longshot, but I remember reading something in a magazine recently about pressure or velocity differences with XTPs. In your guys' experience, how well do XTPs substitute for other JHPs, specifically Sierra 8125s? It's a level 1 match so if I don't quite make major nobody's gonna chronograph me, but I'm more concerned about wacky pressure stuff. All the components will be arriving two days before the match, so there's not much time for load development.

Velocity differences between sources?

I'm figuring out what I want to use for a 38 Super major power factor load, and was considering 125gr over Longshot. However, I just noticed that for a 125gr Sierra FMJ Hodgdon says 6.9gr yields 1247 fps, while Sierra says it gets 1350. The only difference I can see is that Hodgdon had a 1:16" twist barrel, while Sierra had a 1:10". Does the twist rate really make that much of a difference?

Edit: I just realized the 1:10" should be slower, so something else is going on here. What gives?

What exactly does DCF do in ABQ?

Last month I adjusted my DCF with great success in NRL22. Today I put something in wrong and had wildly incorrect holds for the first three stages (0.8 instead of 1.9 MILs). I cleared it and redid it and was great the rest of the day. That got me wondering, what exactly does DCF do? How does the data I put in affect the data I get out? Should I clear it every match?

Is the CD player in my 2006 Focus FUBAR?

A couple months ago the CD player in my 2006 Ford Focus started saying "Bad Disc" for every CD I had in it. I'm pretty confident that all 6 of my CDs aren't bad, so there's obviously an issue with the stereo system. My question is whether it's worth trying to diagnose and fix the issue myself or should I just buy a new stereo and install it? I'd probably just get another factory one unless that's likely to have issues too. I don't want any bells and whistles aside from radio and CDs.

What do I need to finish my Six Pack Pro?

I just bought a reconditioned 6PP from Lee to replace my single stage and it said it comes with a case feeder and case sensor, but I'm not sure what else I'll need to buy to make it fully operational. I have dies and know I'll need shell plates, but will my Lee Perfect Powder Measure work with the 6PP? Will I need a primer tube?

I think a suppressed 10/22 SBR would be neat, but in Washington state creating a semiautomatic rifle with OAL less than 30" is a crime. Based on my math, an 11" barrel should hit that length. I'd like to see pictures of what that length would look like, preferably on an OEM wood stock. If anyone knows exactly what barrel length gets the wood stock to 30", I'd love to know as well.
