Any contingency for (when) Microsoft nukes Github?

Rather new to linux, but I just found out that Microsoft owns github. This seems insane.

It looks like linux is at the start of an S curve of adoption. With the EU starting to abandon Microsoft for linux/open source, and general use adoption starting to really gain traction, Microsoft could find itself with their back to the wall much sooner than they think. They've clearly seen the writing on the wall with the announcement of K2, but even if they get rid of all the AI, spyware etc. I'm not going back, and I doubt many others would too.

Microsoft also isn't the type of company to actually adapt in response to consumer criticism in any meaningful way, and are the types who would self immolate/burn everything rather than see anyone else succeed. So if (more likely when) Linux (and probably Mac) start really taking over market share.....

What's to stop them from just shutting github down and deleting everything?

Are there any contingency plans the wider community is making just in case?

From their perspective, torching an 8 billion dollar investment might be worth it to deeply wound their rival

There's a lot I don't know or understand, so there's likely something I'm missing:)

Edit: Thanks all for the replies and education! In my short time on linux I've only ever seen links to or references to Github, so I assumed thats all thats the only bucket that existed...oh well. Also a news site once mentioned the commits for kernel 7 going on Github and assumed it was hosted there as well.

Azure running on linux is funny too. That and the fact there are already a lot of alternatives out there does make my hypothetical...unlikely.

That said, buying something that all your competitors rely on and killing it to force consumers to use your own product is something any corporation would salivate over; that's what this looked like on the surface:)

FYI-Kernel update has gone out

The 7.0.9 kernel update just dropped (for me at least) as has Nvidia 595.71

Edit: Tried reinstalling drivers, nothing. No downgrade button. Uninstalled drivers, while installing beta got a hard freeze and my install is currently fried. Glad I backed up beforehand

Linux volume always -12 to -15db

Hello fellow hair pullers!

Currently on Nobara (uses pipewire) but have tried in the live environments for Cachy and Mint (and on other hardware too) and have found that Linux is consistently -12 to -15 ish db below where Windows 10 is.

Windows does not have any overdrive, spatial enhancements etc turned on; I do not want to overdrive the signal in linux as that will damage drivers over time.

Alsamixer states everything at 100%, and I have messed around with Master, PCM, Headphone etc settings to no avail. Pactl lists have every sink set at -0db too. I have also tried with my computers headphone jack, a USB dac (topping-d30) and my surround system over HDMI (denon 1500h), so theres quite a variety of outputs manifesting the issue, and all have the same volume drop. I also have the same problem when doing Raop airplay to my stereo and theres the same volume drop compared to my ipads airplay output. It simply appears that linux eats some bit depth

I've read a bunch of other posts around the interwebs and haven't found anything else I can do, kind of at my wits end. Any help would be apprecitated!

I have enough headroom to just turn up the volume on my headphone amp and surround system, but I've sunk enough time into solving this that I'd like a win on moral grounds:)

Hardware:

Intel 12400

Nvidia 4060

Gigabyte B660m motherboard

Howdy boys and girls, got a stumper

Trying to use raop to airplay to a Moode raspberrypi hooked up to my stereo. Got it set up and the stream works and seems clean/stable, but its too quiet (by about -12 db using my dbmeter). I checked with pactl and I get:

front-left: 65536 / 100% / 0.00 dB,   front-right: 65536 / 100% / 0.00 dB
balance 0.00

This problem doesn't happen if I use my iphone airplay, so I'm assuming its not Shairport in Moode being finicky. Tried screwing with the config files based off what the AI suggested and nothing. Any hints about how to proceed would be very helpful, thanks!

P.S. I tried this from two separate computers running nobara and arch, same issues in both

Adore KDE Plasma... have one thing from my windows 10 days I miss:

When snapping a window to the side of the screen the remaining windows go in overview so you can select which program gets the other half of the screen.

Is there an extension or setting that allows that behavior when snapping or activating overview in plasma?

I have searched but I don't think I have the correct terminology to get a good query going
