I'm a fresher and was scheduled to join KPMG in Mumbai on 15th June. Earlier this week, I was in touch with the onboarding team, and during my conversation with my onboarding buddy, I was informed that since the joining date was very close, I should go ahead and book my travel tickets on my own and that the expenses would be reimbursed later. I was also told that my background verification was expected to be completed within 1–2 days and that accommodation details would be shared soon after.

Based on this information, and because flight fares were increasing every day, I booked non-cancellable tickets for travel on 13th June so that I could report on 15th June as scheduled.

Today, when I followed up regarding my accommodation details, I received an email stating that my onboarding has been put on hold until the completion of background verification.

As a fresher relocating to Mumbai, this has put me in a difficult position. My tickets are non-cancellable, and rebooking at a later date would be a significant financial burden. I made these arrangements only after being advised to do so by the company representative.

I've already reached out to the onboarding team and explained the situation, requesting either that I be allowed to join as per the original schedule or that I be compensated for the losses incurred due to the travel arrangements made based on their guidance. But i haven't received any response yet.

Has anyone faced a similar situation during onboarding?

Hi everyone! I’m a 24F moving to Mumbai soon for work and my office is in Vikhroli. I’m looking for accommodation starting June.

My budget is around ₹15k–₹18k. I’m open to both PGs and flats, but would prefer a place where I can have some privacy (single room or minimal sharing).
