Trying to be better about supporting local businesses and not chains - where to buy a PS5 Pro?

I'm finally breaking down and buying a PS5 Pro before AI data centers make the price even higher than it already is, but I am doing my best to support independent local businesses over international or even national chains.

My first instinct was Curry's, because they're convenient, they deliver, and they're Irish. But I didn't know if there was a better choice out there? I've only been in country a few years and I'm still learning.

And yes, I prefer to buy new, but I'd be fine with an open box/returned item for a discount. :)

EDIT: Smyth's it is!

Where are you buying your toys?

I'm a Texan living in Dublin, and it's time for some new adult products. In the States, I bought from a local, queer-owned store that carried ethical products - is there anything like that here, or am I stuck just ordering online?

Looking for easy, lazy recipes that are bean forward?

As my household is increasingly reducing our meat consumption, I've noticed that beans are really popular. I make a white bean Italian soup that's been a hit, for example, but I'm not really sure what else to make?

Bonus points for summery, light recipes that are filling!

Polish folks, what's your favorite kielbasa and where do you get it?

I grew up in a Polish descended family in the States, and we used to get our kielbasa from a local butcher in the community.

Where do you get yours?

Shine’s Irish Winter Mackeral

White bread with Hellmans’s mayonnaise, topped with capers, pickled jalapeños, and Best Maid dill pickle slices, and a sprinkling of sumac for that bright citrus touch.

Absolutely lovely.

Looking for a good dentist that does general anesthesia

I am looking for a dentist that does general anesthesia rather than conscious sedation; I need significant dental work including removals and implants.

While of course cost matters, I have had a lifetime of incredibly negative experiences with dentists - meaning that their crowns and fillings inevitably fall out within a few years of being done, and I have to have the work done all over again - and have only ever had a single dentist who did work that actually has lasted. Sadly, that dentist is back in the US and thus not accessible to me. So if the quality dentist is more pricey, I'll find a way to live with that.

The last dentist I visited here in Dublin is closest to my home, but the oral surgeon tried to change my treatment plan twice after I gave specific instructions (three individual implants, not a two post bride), and I'm rather distrustful of doctors who don't listen to their patients. And before you ask, no, there wasn't a discussion or request for one regarding the changes, I only found out because I read the plan myself before going in.

Hopefully, someone has some great recommendations! Thanks in advance.

At some point I read an HP/SG1 crossover I'd like to read again. The parts that I can remember are:

  • The Ancient Outpost is moved and built into a mountain, and the design has spiraling ramps involved
  • They eventually move to another planet, one of the Merlin constellation, and name it Veridian or Viridian or something like that
  • They integrate magic into the creation of their colony somehow
  • Dan makes big powerful ships
  • Neville and Luna, among others go with them
  • Luna gets taken host by Isis (I think) but is able to contain her
  • They design headbands to show who is in control
  • At some point Harry goes to see the Asgard when the Milky Way stargate system gets caught in the time loop from the Ancient time machine

Any help finding it is appreciated, and I admit some of the details might be off, but I could swear they're right.

I'm restocking the liquor cabinet, and neither is something I'd normally keep around. Which one do you prefer and why?

Recipe sites all just say "use either one", but surely there's a flavor difference, right?

While I'm most fond of crossovers, I think I've realized that what I'm looking for most in fanfiction is a story about some scifi technology coming to a modern setting and falling into the hands of someone that decides to do it right and build that better version of humanity with it.

Whether it's a Star Trek SI where the Enterprise is magicked up and Buffy becomes the Captain, or Harry Potter figures out that the Wizards are the descendants of the Alterans and resurrects the Ancient civilization, I'm looking for optimism that shows us what we can be as a people and a species.

So throw me your recommendations, I'd love to read them!
