Australia is fucked

Recently, Australia has gone and banned the upcoming Halloween game. They refused to give it a rating, which means its illegal for the developers to ship it to both here and NZ.

Personally, this is an absolutely bullshit call by our government, considering the game was banned not because of the violence but because of the fact your character can smoke weed. They talk and go on so much about " protecting " the kids when this CLEARLY isn't a kids' game, and now Adults have to suffer because of their foolish attempts?

Australia needs to wake the fuck up and put more effort into more important things than simply trying to keep a video game out of the country.

Just got on the new extraction rift bus

I was playing a game not long ago, 5 people were left and the new rift event occured, where that battle bus arrives to pick up multiple players, allowing for more than one winner. I was sitting on it waiting to leave when I saw a player also sitting on it, i didnt kill him because I felt like it wasn't worth it at that point, we were both there and about to win anyway. I tried showing him I was friendly but he was skiddish to say the least, even put two shotgun shells into me, eventually i moved to the other side of the bus and we both won. This actually seems like a cool idea, but ofc there are gonna be players who will try to ruin the fun, or won't accept your friendship ( much like thus guy i mentioned ) so be careful around these in the future cause these problems will definitely get worse.

I eliminated a friendly player and now I feel terrible

One of my main methods of sprite hunting involves stealing off of others that I kill. Anytime I see that an extraction zone has been activated, I'm first on the scene to pry whatever liitle creature my opponent has out of their hands, I've gotten lucky so far doing this as well: A Holofoil king, a Gold Boss, and even a Gummy grim were all obtained this way.

Anyway, I was at that extraction point near the battlewoods attempting to chase down the other player I found hanging around, unfortunately he got away, so i instead turned my attention to extracting my own sprites. As I'm doing this a player comes out of a rift and lands right in front of me. Ofc since this is battle royale I immediately beam him with an SMG and kill, however I feel so bad bc he was actually there to give me a sprite that he found ( a holofoil striker ), he dropped it as I sprayed him down as like a peace offering.

It was a situation where you go to do something, however while your brain manages to process the situation and develops and plan to approach it, you body is already committed to the action you already took. In this case he dropped on me and my immediate response was to kill him, but he dropped the sprite for me, which made my brain process the interaction as friendly, but my body was already committed to holding down the trigger on the controller.

After I killed him a felt so bad, ik this game is every man for himself and all but damn it hurts when people try to be nice and it backfires, ESPECIALLY if you caused the backfire.

AITJ for agreeing to help my friend move out of his house?

TW: mentions of Child & Substance abuse⚠️⚠️

Now before I explain my story I would just like to inform there WILL be a lot of writing in this post, as the story im telling is long and can be confusing to follow if all aspects of it arent fleshed out. TLDR will be provided at the end and will summarize this post to the best of my ability

So this story takes place about 4 years ago, and it involves my and my friend, who we will call Jonah. We are both 19 years old (M), and he has been living with me and my family since we both turned 15. This is because he had an extremely poor home life. I won't go into too much detail, but to put it simply, his Father didn't want him around and his Mom is MIA. His father is suffering from severe substance abuse problems and hasn't in the 4 years since this event happened, tried to change ( at least to my knowledge ).

I met Jonah at a sporting arena, he was there with a family friend of mine and was talking to him as all 3 of us went to the same high school. Before meeting him at this arena i was aware he attended our school, but we never really interacted, after we awkwardly got together and kicked some goals with a rugby ball, my friend went home and it was just me and Jonah, who at this moment in time didn't even know I existed.

After some back and forth small talk, he opened up about wanting to join the sporting club I play under, when I asked him why he said that the club he was with at that time trained in the next town over, and he couldn't reliably get to practice every week. When I asked him about there being any ways he could get there through people at his house, he simply said " My Dad never wants to drive me out there " . After a while we stuck around and watched the senior age groups play beofre heading home.

I saw him at school the next week and talked to him about registering under my sporting club, to which he said he needed to find his birth certificate. However he never ended up getting it before the registrations closed. When I asked why he didnt ask his parents, what he told me was actually pretty disturbing, he told me his dad had ripped it up and yelled at him about wanting to change clubs, and that he was stuck with the team he was already in. I later found this was because of his dad having a mental episode due to substances.

After a while he started asking to come over to my house a lot while simultaneously refusing to let me visit his house ( which I later found out why ). We let him and it basically became his second home.

Then came the day where he finally got another copy of his birth certificate through his school profile and was able to register with my rugby team. It was me and my uncle he went to pick him up from his house, and I won't ever forget the conversation i heard Jonah and his dad have before he came with us.

Jonah's Dad: What the f$&k are you doing?

Jonah: I'm going to OP's uncle's house so I can register to play with him on *rugby team*

Jonah's Dad: I f*<king told you your not doing that you little c#nt!

Jonah: But really want to

Jonah's Dad: whatever, f$ck off then.

Being there and hearing his dad for the first time, and hearing him speaking to a kid like that, especially his own kid, didn't sit well with me.

He joined our rugby team shortly after that and that was that for a bit. He would frequently come over to escape his dad, while he never said it was due to that, I knew it was at least part of the reasoning.

Then the day came, he arrived to my house after school again, on this particular day he was very quite and didn't say much, and when the bell rang he asked if he could sit down and talk to me and my parents once he arrived at my house.

Once we got home and waited for my parents to finish work and come home, he asked the question, " can I please start living with you people? " its here where I mention that his arms and part of his torso were covered in sports tape, which he was using as bandages as his dad had... well its not hard to imagine what he did.

My Mum worked in child protection at the time, and surprisingly, along with my dad, let him start sleeping out at our house. Later on he asked me and my family friend if we could help him get his clothes and his Dog out of his old house, as he needed clothing and as he put it " didnt want to leave his dog with his dad " our family dog had unfortunately passed away 2 months before this moment and after talking it over with my dad and mum, to let them know Jonah was serious about wanting to leave his home. Me and my family friend went over to his house and got all his stuff out while his dad was out one day ( his dad would frequently go out for hours or sometimes days on end, and leave Jonah home alone ).

My mum filed a report through her work, and after some push back from his dad, he gave up and he has lived with us since.

Since then, his 'biological' dad has stopped attempting to reach out to Jonah for 2 years now. Jonah himself took up my parents' offer of moving into our guest house. And that's how life has been.

While i dont feel like im a jerk for doing this, somedays i feel indecisive on this action, one one hand I feel like I played a part in taking a then child away from his dad, but at the same time to child basically begged my family to take him away. I just thought this story was worth sharing and AITJ for playing a part in this.

TLDR: My friend endured years in an abusive household, and I and another individual moved all his stuff and his dog into my home with full support from my parents.

Am I a Jerk for holding a grudge against my parents?

I am a 19 year old male, and while still living at home, got a full time job and live in the guest house on our property. I the main reason I moved out there is because my parents were too overbearing and over aggressive. This spans multiple years where i would try to make my parents laugh like most little kids and some teenagers would do, but all my attempts to do so would turn into lectures about respect, or in some cases the confiscation of my things if they found the Joke I tried telling 'offensive'. A stand out moment I remember is when my mum was complaining to me about how I didnt clean the sink properly and missed a spot, even though she was sitting in the kitchen and I was on the complete other end of the house, she called me all the way to the kitchen to do the chore. Me, trying to be a witty teenager said something like " Y'know god gave all other humans hands to right? " I laughed as I said it to convey that it was a joke, which lead to me getting yelled at and threatened. This was the start of the idea that i couldnt have a laugh with my parents being drilled into my head for several years. My dad was pretty much the same but he would instead follow through with his statements of him "kicking my ass". This lead to me not making many friends in the future as I was too scared of saying something to upset people on accident mainly due to my experiences with my parents. And while im doing so much better now and definitely dont hate my parents, a part of me still holds them responsible for those years where I felt alone and only had myself. So am i a jerk for still holding a grudge years later?

Which character 'clicked' with you when you first started playing?

I started playing during Season 8 of Overwatch 2 after my friends pushed me to link up and give them that last teamate for a full squad. Mauga had just released and my friends, in an attempt to coax me further into playing, gave me the ten bucks to buy him ( this was when you needed to pay for the new seasons hero ). Since I had bought him and i wanted to make due on my purchase I took him into a skirmish and used him to 1v1 my friends, and I cant lie, that first moment of using him to tear down my friends was probably one of the funnest times I had on this game. After testing him on the different heroes my friends were using we queued up for QP and I ended up getting a team kill in my first game with the help of some support heroes. It was really fun and I continue to use him during one off occasions where it load it up. I currently have him at lvl 480 and still remember the day I 'clicked' with this character.

The new visualise sound effects need to be reverted.

It still amazes me that a single comment on twitter is what brought about the changes to this feature, ( if you didnt know they shortened distance a player needs to be in order for sounds to be displayed by a fair margine ). The worst part is that these changes are unfortunately impacting the way people who actually suffer from hearing impairments or disabilities play. The whole point of the feature was to allow deaf people to experience the game WITHOUT having the issue of not being able to track other players, and epic basically took it away from them. I have a deaf cousin who used to play, but stopped for this exact reason. His hearing abilities are to put it bluntly terrible, and the feature that was helping him was changed because of others. What does the greater fortnite community think, I already thrown in my 2 cents and would love to hear from u guys.
