I have been to a few other watchmaker in Southern California and Thomas is the best I have found and not crazy expensive.
Love wearing this watch and love looking at the sunburst dial.
Seiko fan boys are the worst.
I’ve owned an SKX and I’ll defend it for what it is. Most days I wear a 1984 Seiko Turtle because I love how huge and obnoxious it is, and I don’t mind beating on it.
The SKX is a $300 watch—nothing more. Parts of the Seiko community act like it’s some high-horology masterpiece sitting in the upper echelon of watchmaking. If a bezel insert has been replaced with an aftermarket part, suddenly the watch is “unworthy” and gets labeled a “Mumbai special” or a “mod.”
Let’s be honest: it’s a cheap tool watch. Parts wear out, parts break, and replacements get installed. So fucking what if some guy put an aftermarket insert on it. We’re not talking about a rare vintage Rolex worth tens of thousands of dollars. It’s a Seiko that was built to be worn, used, repaired, and enjoyed and never increase in valve.
How long does it take you to know if you like a book or not?
This is my first science fiction book, and within just a few minutes I knew it was for me. The sense of mystery, the unknown, and the underlying dread in the opening paragraph immediately hooked me—very much in the same way that Project Hail Mary did. After a long string of books that I never quite finished, it’s refreshing to finally find one that has completely captured my attention.
Reptards are closeted Rolex fan boys
I am prepared to take this down pretty quick if things get hot. 😂
The IWC Ingenieur is horribly underrated and I love it that way.
The internet hype monster loved the Royal Pop for a few weeks based on a case shape, logo and nothing more. The Royal Oak, Overseas and Nautilus are amazing watches in their own right, but out of most people’s budget.
The Ingenieur failed in the 70s mostly because of its tool watch design, full brushing and thickness from the antimagnetism etc. IWC brought back the design of Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur and nailed it.
The brushed integrated bracelet with polished ends is cool. 120 hrs power and 100m WR is also cool. The most important point is the cost of an IWC Ingenieur is not insane compared to the other Genta watches.
Hot or not?
Sky Watcher 150 heritage eye piece upgrade.
Would this eye piece be a significant upgrade to the stock eye piece from Sky Watcher Heritage 150? If not, what eye piece would be in the $30-45 range?
We have mostly been looking at Venus which is extremely bright; also, Jupiter which is what I would like to see better. When focusing on Jupiter the light moves around the plants and has been difficult to see the planet well. Our back yard is north facing, and located in the California burbs.
By far the best watch reviewer on YouTube, Tim Mosso.
Let’s be honest—many of us get a lot of our watch information from YouTube. When I’m looking to learn rather than be entertained by gimmicks, I find myself returning to Tim’s reviews. His videos are concise, stay focused on the watch from start to finish, and avoid unnecessary distractions. What really sets him apart is the depth of his knowledge; his understanding of watches, their history, and the details that matter is truly impressive. Tell me about your favorite watch YouTuber and what makes their content stand out to you.
“Scratching that itch”with junk is just stupid.
Sell off your stamp collection or cash in your kids college fund, but buy the real damn watch. If you can’t afford it then too bad. Can we stop with these homages?
1980-2000 (neo-vintage) is the best era of watchmaking.
From the 1980s to the 2000s (or so) the watch industry perfectly balance the appeal of vintage design language with the everyday durability of modern engineering. I love vintage watches, but condition issues, parts availability and some asking prices make it a deal breaker. Modern watchmaking tend to follow hype trains of faux patina lume and shiny ceramic bezel inserts.
Can I get a vote for one of these three telescope?
Buying a telescope for my daughter’s middle school graduation (she loves Space and ask for a telescope) and hoping it will turn into a fun actively with the kids. The full 6 or 8 inch Dosonian are too big for our storage situation, so why the table top telescope. It’s wild the rabbit hole of researching a telescopes, had no idea.
Let me just start with most of the guys on the Rolex sub tool bags flexing. So, let me make a case for Rolex being the King.
The brand recognition alone by none-watch people is enough to put them on top. Does any one of your none-watch friends know what a Hamilton or Sinn is?
The amount of money the Rolex primary, secondary, grey and reps markets make dwarfs all other brands.
The Rolex dials are so iconic at this point we give them names even if they are a watch hustler (Buckley).
The history is full of industry firsts like the oyster case etc etc.
The AD can play games with their customers by putting them on an allocation list; not many other brand can do this.
What about all the homage brands like Steinhart, or the heavy borrowing of Rolex design by Seiko.
I am not on a list waiting to “get the call” I am very happy with my vintage watches.
If you are triggers by my statement, relax and take a deep breathes.
