Blood draws going horribly
I’ve had this phobia since I was a kid, can’t remember having a bad experience as to where it started either. I had a blood draw yesterday and I broke down so badly that I was howling and hyperventilating through the whole thing like an animal. I’m 22 mind you, I’ve never met anyone with the same phobia this intense before. THEY DIDN’T EVEN GET ANY BLOOD EITHER AMD I HAVE TO COME BACK IM SO PISSED. The nurse was super nice and very understanding, they said they wouldn’t do anything I didn’t consent to, so they wouldn’t just jab me with the damn thing when I wasn’t ready.
Anyways, how do I work on this???? I’m already in therapy for different things, and I’d prefer not to go back and forth between the needles and the other stuff.
I’m autistic as well, and I’ve boiled it down to a sensory overload/sensory issues.
I’ve tried breathing, distractions such as temperatures, talking, pinpointing on a certain subject, counting, things like that. I’m scared to use music incase I correlate that song to the anxiety of needles lol.
Thanks to anyone who can respond!!
