Bring Her Home.

Hey troopers,

The Spirit of Fire comes home. Here’s the seventh set of images for my Halo: Homecoming fan campaign concept, showcasing the finale and epilogue of the main campaign. Here’s the previous links in case you missed it:

Introduction

Prologue & Mission 2 (Myer’s Moon / Reach)

Missions 3 & 4 (Venezia / Installation 09)

Missions 5 & 6 (Installation 09 / Kenya)

Missions 7 & 8 (Camber / Venezia)

Missions 9 & 10 (The Ark)

PLEASE NOTE: this is solely for the purposes of presentation and entertainment, made as a labor of love from a Halo fan of 20 years. I am not affiliated with 343 Industries/Halo Studios in any way and I’m not profiting off this concept or using it for commercial purposes whatsoever. I assembled this project in Photoshop from my own conceptual writings, licensed Adobe Stock assets, and both used and unused concept art from 343 Industries/Halo Studios as stand-ins or “mission flavoring,” sourced from Halopedia.

Just like the first video game mockup I co-created for HITMAN 3™ back in 2020, no AI was used for this project and I am proud of the (painstaking) hands-on work I put into this. I obviously do not claim any existing Halo artwork used as my own. However, some pieces were slightly altered; nonetheless, ALL art credit goes to the concept artists/studio and will be credited with each post. Credits for this post found below.

“Exitus Acta Probat”: Josh Kao, Halo Infinite, 343 Industries

“Epilogue”: David Edwards, Halo 2 Anniversary, 343 Industries, Halo Wars 2 “Know Your Enemy,” Halo Wars 2 render (Anders); Josh Wilkinson, Halo Infinite, 343 Industries

"Halo: Homecoming" spin-off concept/pitch deck (Introduction)

Hey Spartans,

What ever happened to Professor Anders on Installation 09? How is the Spirit of Fire ever gonna return from the Ark? I spent the last year creating a spin-off video game mockup/proof of concept/pitch deck that seeks to answer those questions.

HALO: HOMECOMING (tentative title) follows Captain Rion Forge and the crew of the Ace of Spades as they resume their quest to find the long-lost ship. Though these are characters from the novels, they wouldn’t be required reading to understand the story.

But given that Halo Wars 3 was rejected, I felt that a FPS spin-off through the eyes of the only characters already searching for the ship might be the best option to follow Halo Wars 2.

In this first post, you’ll find images of:

  • Player character page
  • Main Campaign Missions List
  • Main Campaign Mission Achievements

In the remaining series of posts, you’ll find:

  • Main campaign mission summaries, narrative, gameplay, and endnotes (if you’re a lore junkie like me) to keep it in line with current canon
  • DLC Campaign, characters, and mission summaries + multiplayer tease

Remember to click to enlarge, use your imagination, and hope you enjoy!

Possible identity of the GameInformer ODST other than Melissa McKay

In the event that the mystery ODST on the cover of the latest GameInformer issue and in the Operation: METEORITE prequel missions isn’t Melissa McKay as suspected, Halo Studios still has other less well-known ODSTs they could (and should) draw from canon:

KIA by or during 2552:
* Al-Thani: member of McKay’s B Company, KIA September 2552 during boarding of Pillar of Autumn.
* Amey: ex-CMA and suspected Insurrectionist sympathizer, KIA August 2552 during botched robbery in a bank vault in Mount Haven.
* Corly: helped capture Alpha Base on Installation 04, KIA September 2552 after gathering supplies from Pillar of Autumn crash site.
* Dawkins: member of McKay’s B Company, KIA September 2552 during boarding of Pillar of Autumn.
* Oros: member of McKay’s B Company, KIA September 2552 returning to Alpha Base from Pillar of Autumn crash site.
* Marie Postly: member of Silva’s unit, KIA September 2552 during helljump to Installation 04 or thereafter.
* Suzuki: member of McKay’s B Company, KIA September 2552 during boarding of Pillar of Autumn.

Unknown status by or during 2552:
* Fielding: participated in Battle of Ariel in January 2552 alongside Dutch and Romeo.
* Jambo: participated in Battle of Ariel in January 2552 alongside Dutch and Romeo.
* Kelly: participated in Battle of Ariel in January 2552 alongside Dutch and Romeo.
* Nelly Hamm: Captain in the Black Daggers, fought alongside Chief and Johnson in Operation: SILENT STORM in 2526, would be late 40s by Operation: METEORITE.

Survived post-METEORITE and (somehow, potentially) Battle of Installation 04:
* Abovian: participated as part of Tango Team during Battle of Netherop in November 2559 to recover the Divine Hand superweapon.
* Lian Devereaux: member of ONI black ops unit Kilo-Five through April 2553.
* Duval: participated as part of Tango Team during Battle of Netherop in November 2559 to recover the Divine Hand superweapon.
* “Mama” Grim Bear: daughter of late Black Daggers officer Neha Small Bear and CO of Tango Team during Battle of Netherop in November 2559 to recover the Divine Hand superweapon.
* Martinez: participated as part of Tango Team during Battle of Netherop in November 2559 to recover the Divine Hand superweapon, KIA.

There may be some discrepancies here based on character descriptions from the books. And of course, this list doesn’t account for Marines in canon who could later become an ODST by the time of METEORITE in 2551. Nonetheless I think Halo Studios always has the opportunity to draw from or fold in existing characters in canon to flesh them out.

DJ Disguise in The Wizard ET

IOI finally reinstated the cut DJ disguise from H2 in this ET. The DJ is found if you make a left before entering the main arena. I’ve donned the disguise and tried to do a few tricks with it, but doesn’t seem to do anything special—has anyone found a purpose for this disguise?

Theory: The San'Shyuum homeworld, Janjur Qom, is secretly shield world Cloister

JANJUR QOM

The Prophets allege that Janjur Qom was destroyed via supernova in 648 BCE, a claim that was seen as dubious by the rest of the future Covenant. Knowing how slippery these guys are, I would not be surprised if their homeworld didn't in fact explode, but was one in the same with the shield world Cloister, in the same way that Onyx disintegrated to become Sarcophagus/Trevelyan, or how The Refuge was reformed, with the records mostly obscure or lost to time.

CLOISTER

Cloister is known as a shield world and is the intended destination of the San'Shyuum flotilla that Prelate Dhas Bhasvod helped shepherd off High Charity during its fall, though it's unknown if they ever made it there. Rtas Vadum and the Shadow of Intent have been hunting down this flotilla to bring its war criminals to justice as of 2559. And as of 2560, Bhasvod, evidently still stranded on the Ark, intends to find a portal that could take him to Cloister to link up with the flotilla, which also has connections to the Order of Restoration that seeks to restore the Prophets' dominance. Cloister is said to host "gene-forges" to return vitality to their species, a notion that also aligns with the physical prowess of the San'Shyuum Stoics who opted to remain on the world in the past. So essentially, the species traveling to Cloister would be them "coming home" unbeknownst to many.

Other considerations...

If they did know, why the San'Shyuum Reformists would opt to live on High Charity would have to be explained. Plus, the San'Shyuum Stoics, their theological rivals from that age, would likely not have survived whatever cataclysm may have occurred.

What do you all think? Too crackpot?

The Spirit of Fire as of 2560

The SOF’s latest action in Divine Wind takes place in late October, 2559, with Mark’s funeral and the Ferrets’ induction into the crew after a battle that disabled the Ark’s ability to fire the Halo Array.

The story Halo: Hippocratica is set in early February 2560 and has Optican CEO Adam Andrews wondering where the SOF is, indicating it still hasn’t returned to the galaxy by this time.

But the 2022 edition of the Halo Encyclopedia is framed metatextually as a conversation and infodump between several Forerunner AIs in May 2560 (around Halo Infinite) which provides no update on the SOF‘s fate other than vaguely alluding to it still being stranded on the Ark. If this context is canon, is it safe to assume that as of May 2560, the SOF is STILL fighting at the Ark?

(And what the hell happened to Anders since she and Installation 09 were intercepted by the Created in early April 2559?? Clearly she was unable to call for backup a whole year later.)

Since we aren’t getting a Halo Wars 3, hopefully one of the new Waypoint Chronicles that comes out on Tuesday may shed some light on this…

Could a newer model Shaw-Fujikawa drive be installed on an older ship, or at least a ship that normally takes an older model drive? Is this simply just the definition of “retrofit”? Considering how expensive, sensitive, and dangerous the drives are, I was curious if anybody knew the answer.
