R3D ARCHER - Modular Tucked Suppressor AR Handguard with round profile and detachable anti-rotation tabs

Introducing R3D ARCHER, a sleek round profile modular handguard with detachable anti rotation tabs. Enough internal clearance to slide in up to 38mm suppressor. Available in 6", 7", and 9" handguard length.

After previously playing around with the concept of modular handguard where the handguard is seperated into 3 sections for maximum length customization, cheaper maintenance, and easier print for smaller 3D printer owner, now we start playing around with the concept of replacable anti-rotation tabs.

The reason is because of inconsistency of upper receiver neck width between airsoft, gel blaster, and real mil spec AR upper, ranging from as low as 16.25mm to 17.5mm.

Currently, we have 16.25mm, 16.6mm, and 17.5mm width tabs. If there are more width than that, please leave out a comment below 👇

Permanent anti rotation tabs wont fit good and snug to a widely different AR upper out there, some might be too lose and casue rail wobble; some might not able to slide in. This detachable anti rotation tabs is trying to adress that spesific issue. Each tabs has 4mm thickness, so it wont easily sheers or break. To attach it, is to insert the tabs right on the BASE part of the handguard and no additional hardware required.

The R3D ARCHER will be suitable for you who are looking to build an integrally suppressed AR setup for airsofts and gel blasters.

Go ahead and tell your thoughts and inputs in the comments. Thank you for your attention 🙏

Solving the broken 14mm thread problem: R3D SABR (Sacrificial Airsoft Barrel Replacement) Modular System

Every 3D-printed outer barrel suffers from the same point of failure: the 14mm CCW muzzle threads on the front tip where the muzzle devices are attached.

The 14mm CCW muzzle, despite still being printable, is very small, fine, and fragile. A hard knock or bump in the muzzle can shear the fine threads, breaking it; then the muzzle device can't be attached anymore. The entire 3D-printed outer barrel becomes useless just because of this small portion of it - the 14mm threads on the front tip sheared off and broke.

Instead of having to re-print an entire monolithic outer barrel for hours, this R3D SABR system makes that small point of failure - The front tip 14mm threads- fully replaceable. We cut the front tip threading around 20mm and then give the other end of it coarse (chonky) threads for stronger attachment and also easier maintenance.

The outer barrel is being separated into parts:

  • The BASE Adapter: where the outer barrel is attached and holds onto the upper receiver. It utilises CCW coarse threads

  • MID: Female-to-female sockets with coarse threads - the main body of the outer barrel.

  • Front 14mm thread TIP: designed to be a small replaceable parts where it has 14mm threading at the front to attach muzzle devices, and coarse threads to attach to the MID section.

  • Extender: Just like the MID part, but it is a male-to-female socket that can connect with the MID, TIP, and the BASE adapter. For a longer barrel setup.

It's not indestructible - that's not the purpose of this setup- but it is endlessly replaceable. If the 14mm threads sheared off and are unable to hold the muzzle device after a hard bump, just print the small piece of 14mm threads TIP for a couple of minutes and then swap the broken part with the new one.

The airsoft version: 8.5mm inner hole diameter and 20mm outer barrel diameter. From 5.5" to 16" Barrel length (airsoft measurement standard)

The gel blaster version will be coming soon. Huge thanks to JomarX for the idea.

Experiment on QD Supressor setup

Dummy non functional supressor

It's not revolutionary since it's using the already proven twist lock mechanism. But I guess its still Quick Detach nonetheless...

Separated into 2 sections. BASE mounting and Supressor Body. I designed them quite stiff because parts will face wear and tear along time.

The Base - having the 14mm threads to connect with the barrel and stay there - is meant to be a replaceable part/sacrificial adapter for the supressor body.

The Base part requires around 5 gr and 37 minutes to print. All with PETG. This setup does not require additional springs, O-ring, nor screws.

A super modular Handguard System for AR Platform

Summary:

The idea is to make it easy to change handguard looks and profile like COD gunsmith, and also make it faster and less expensive to reprint a broken handguard.

Explanation:

Some people love changing their airsoft looks and profile constantly like a Call Of Duty/Tarkov gunsmith system, especially the handguard length. But that requires them to have many handguards for just one platform, which is expensive to have and time consuming to print.

Some people are also frustrated that their 3D printed handguard breaks or cracks during games or from a fall, having to re-print the entire monolithic handguard for more than 5 hours - again, expensive and time consuming.

This modular handguard system is aiming to solve those two problems - the urge to swap looks and the cost of re-printing.

Three sections : Base, Mid, and End. If one breaks, only that broken part that needs to be printed again, instead of the whole handguard. Want to have flushed in the suppressor inside the handguard? Print only the End cap that is flared instead of printing the whole design. Secured with 3 bolts on each section. The base clamp securely on 35 mm barrel nut.

From 6" to 15" Handguard length. This system is not aimed to hold perfect zero - you should buy a real steel handguard if that's your mission. Instead, this handguard system aimed to be modular, lightweight, and cheaper replacement for your airsoft AR units.
