**Maja, 22, birdwatcher: "Nice to get away from screens"**

Maja Stenquist, 22, gets a few reactions when she tells people she devotes herself to the "old man's hobby" of birdwatching.

And more women are heading out to the bird towers with binoculars in hand.

– It is nice to get away from all the screens, says Maja.
​

Birdwatching has previously been a male-dominated leisure activity, but in the last 15 years, the gender distribution has evened out, according to the association BirdLife Sweden.

Maja Stenquist, 22, from Huskvarna, views the trend positively.
– It is good that women dare to take space and come out and birdwatch, she says.

Niklas Aronsson, press contact at BirdLife Sweden, thinks that a whole lot of women have joined bird clubs in connection with the annual winter bird counts.

This so good! Bird watching has always, as long as I can remember, been a male-dominated interest, and to see that women like this, not only wants and or has to watch babies/children and men, but also our feathered little friends, the birds, is great fun.
