Baranof Warm Springs

One of my favorite places to stop when traveling the inside passage Alaska. This is from January 2018 when for some reason me and a buddy thought it was a good time to bring an old wood schooner built in 1937 from Cathlamet, WA to Homer, Alaska with no autopilot.

It’s a pretty cool spot. The dock is a public state dock. There is a public bath house that has two rooms with tubs that are supplied by the piped in hot springs water. A short hike takes you to a naturally fed pool by the river.

Big Island Jetta

This is our sweet little Jetta that we found in Hilo, Hawaii. Found on a used car lot where everything else was at least 10 years newer. It’s a 2000 1.9 ALH that had 101,450 miles when we bought it a couple months ago. One owner, purchased in Kona Jan 2000 for $23k cash (Original paperwork was in the manual) by a retired guy from New Hampshire. Lived its entire life in Mountain View, HI and was traded in after the owners death. It has been very well cared for and probably garage kept. I’ve been wanting an ALH for a while but never thought I would find one in such condition.

We put over a thousand miles in it during the ten days we were on the island and it performed flawlessly. The timing belt was done at 97k miles and the steering rack replaced right before it was traded in. I plan on a tune and suspension overhaul when we get back in the fall.

Scored a sweet 2000 Jetta TDI

On a random car lot on the Big Island, Hawai’i. One owner, bought for $23,000 cash in Kailua-Kona in Jan 2000 (came with original paperwork in the owners manual), spent its entire life on the east side of the island. 101,450 Miles, looks to have been garage kept and cared for, no rust. Timing belt done at 97k, needs suspension work. Put over 1000 miles in 10 days @ 43mpg mixed driving. Been looking for a decent ALH for a while and feel lucky that I found this beauty.
