Just contributing a data point here.
The only promotion I did was a few reddit post on page launch and the steam bullet fest. It is basically flat zero for the period between the 2 events.
Was not feeling confidence to promote the game as it doesnt look polish enough.
So it looks like setting up the store early doesnt help a lot if the game is not ready for promotion.
