A True Work of Art: Nevada County Connects

This is a bus network BTW. Gotta love when you get off at "RRH/RRR" or "Squirrel Creek Across from the School". Oh and the Yellow line which has no discernable direction only runs thrice daily lmao

Rural transit is amazing and we need more of it, but maybe system maps don't make a whole ton of sense :)

Caltrain Reduces Deficit by 7%, as Required for Transit Tax

The transit tax proposed for November requires all agencies to pursue efficiencies to reduce costs as well as generate more revenue. Additionally, they must work to standardize operations and coordinate schedules through programs like the Big Sync and MTC's Regional Wayfinding initiative.

Things are starting to look up for Bay Area transit and ridership numbers will continue to climb if we give these systems strong financial footing with the sales tax. Let's keep the momentum going!

Sunday Volunteering?

I like to volunteer outdoors at park cleanups and trash pickups, but it seems every organization I can find holds their events Saturday mornings. It means I have plenty of options to choose from to start my weekend, but I'd love to get out and about on Sundays too.

Anyone know of park cleanups (either via the city or otherwise) that happen on Sunday mornings? I know some people have church, but surely there's still stuff happening.

Thanks!

Just Noticed the Emergency Exit Windows have a Different Reflection

Looking at the shadow? (inverse shadow?), you can clearly discern the emergency exit windows from the regular ones. I wonder why this is? Something with how the glass is manufactured?

Why Not Use The Door Buttons?

We all know that the Light Rail rolling stock are falling apart, however I wonder if VTA could extend their useful service life by disabling automatic opening of the doors.

I've had a couple trips now where doors refused to open and one where the operator had to get out and run back to force it closed. If the aging door mechanism is a big problem, could VTA reprogram the trains so they no longer open at every stop and instead only open when someone inside or outside presses the button? That's how many trams in Europe operate.

Of course, it would require some PSAs and passenger retraining, but I'm not sure what other choice they have once cannibalizing old parts becomes untenable.

  • OAK cannot display the word "San Francisco" or "SF" more prominently than "Oakland". Whether by means of font size, bolding, coloring, italics, etc.
  • OAK cannot hyphenate anything with "Oakland - San Francisco"
  • OAK cannot change their IATA code to include "SF"
  • OAK cannot name their airport "Oakland San Francisco Bay International Airport"
  • OAK cannot use any name in which "San Francisco" is not immediately followed by "Bay"
  • OAK cannot purchase search engine ads with the words "San Francisco"
  • OAK cannot abbreviate Oakland without abbreviating San Francisco (no #OakSanFranciscoBayAirport)
  • This applies perpetually and worldwide unless SFO removes "San Francisco" from its name
