[Update] Designed a script for Malto language from India. Script is completely based on Tolong siki by Dr. Narayan Oraon.

Made the script a little more readable.

AI fair use : minimal AI used to get base svgs for some of the characters. All other work was manually done by me. The origin of the idea is by me while the script is based on Tolong siki by Dr. Narayan Oraon.

Help needed

Hi, native Thamizh here. I was researching about other dravidian languages and their writing system when I came across this. Tolong siki looks great but I have some doubts. If anyone is free and wants to help feel free to reach out.

Attached here is my attempt at writing the script.

Are the Tamil diphthongs /ai/ and /au/ Dravidian or Indo-Aryan in origin?

Just plain confused about this.

On one hand, Tholkappiyar accepts them as part of Tamil while rejecting other parts of Sanskrit but on the other, he claims that they can be written as vowel-consonant pairs.

Also could not find any source saying they were in Proto-Dravidian as diphthongs.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Are Irulas from Nilgiris and the coastal plains the same people?

Are they even related as closely as assumed or are they 2 different groups classified under the same umbrella?

Do i need to learn the aspirated letters too?

Hi, so I would like to research and learn the evolution of words throughout the dravidian language family. I can somewhat manage with the unaspirated letters which I learnt for another similar project.

My question is do Melimi Telugu words contain a good amount of aspirated letters that i need to learn them (fully or partially)?

I am not trying to learn the entire language. Just the script is enough to study the words' evolution.

Created a new sub

Hi, so I created a new sub called r/ThooyaThamizh.

The main purpose is to have a forum focused on the academic and linguistic discussion, creation, revival and usage of pure Thamizh words.

I have also started a project to create 1000 words to be added in sorkuvai(Government of Tamilnadu initiative) and/or used in ta.Wikipedia.

Anyone interested can join and contribute.

Feel free to ask any questions.

P.S. this is not affiliated to the mod team of r/dravidiology

Created a new sub

Created a new sub to discuss pure தமிழ் words without any politics or hateful rhetoric.

While r/tamil is great with regards to pure tamil vocabulary I wanted something where it was the main focus.

r/ThooyaThamizh

Those interested can join and contribute.

Feel free to ask questions

Edit: Just to clarify, this is an independent sub and not affiliated with the r/tamil moderation team.

"மெட்ரோ" / "மெற்றோ" எது சரி ?

"மெற்றோ" என்பது தான் ஆங்கில உச்சரிப்பின் சரியான எழுத்து வடிவம். ஆனால் "மெட்ரோ" என்பதை தான் எங்கும் காண முடிகிறது.

உங்கள் கருத்து என்ன?

Changed Tamil swadesh list in wiktionary

So i slightly changed the Tamil swadesh list in wiktionary. I removed the word "நாமம்" (nāmam) from 207-name since it contradicts with the core concept of swadesh lists, which are meant to show the basic words in each language that undergo the least change.

Please correct me if i am wrong.
