I was already planning on sharing this here at some point since someone told me I should when I referenced the purchase under a different post so when I saw the theme I realized there was no better time than now.

This is technically not the most expensive animation art purchase I’ve ever made, as I’ve dropped higher numbers on lots with multiple items, nor the most expensive item I’ve ever considered purchasing only for someone else to go for it first, nor the highest bid I‘ve ever placed on animation art only for someone else to bid even higher (roughly $5k), but
in fitting with the prompt this is the priciest single item I’ve purchased.

This is a gorgeous entirely frame-filling key cel of Asuka from Episode 22’ of Evangelion (the Director’s Cut version of the episode), when her mind is invaded by an angel and she is forced to relive her most traumatic experiences and confront her deepest fears and insecurities all at once. This is one of my favorite scenes from the entire series and the one which helped me to truly understand Asuka’s character. It ran me roughly $2200, which isn’t exactly chump change but is definitely going to be a record broken several times over the years, especially with how the market’s been as of late.

A cel and douga of Utena Tenjou and Anthy Himemiya from two iconic bank sequences from Revolutionary Girl Utena. The first appears in two episodes (23 & 36) and the second is the final arc sword pull/summon sequence which appears in six out the seven (kill me) duels in that arc. Utena and Anthy develop such a complex and beautiful relationship over the course of this series and I’m enormously glad to own these pieces (though I will not rest until I own a matching cel from the latter — I’m aware one has been on Yahoo but it looks like it’s developing VS based on the scan so considering the pricetag I’d rather hold out for a frame in better shape).

I recently purchased a stellar closeup cel of Asuka which I’d consider to be one of my all-time grails of her, so in the spirit of diversifying my selection of characters going forward, I’ve decided I’d be willing to part ways with this one. Accounting for what I originally paid + selling fees/shipping, I’m asking $950. Shipping to any location, including international, is included in that price. So naturally when I found this Tetsuo I knew couldn’t pass up something from such an iconic moment not just in the film but in meme history. It may not be the most impressive frame out there (and a bunch of sequence-mates have been circulating lately) but I feel its pedigree combined with the price made it an essential pickup and one I will always treasure.

Hi all! I’ve been carefully curating a collection of Beast Wars II & Neo original animation cels since 2020, many of which I purchased through lots which each contained several cels. As a result, I’ve ended up with a sizable pile of art which doesn’t fit into my current collection for one reason or another, often because I‘ve ended up with several frames from a single sequence. Additionally, I’ve accrued a pretty large backlog of cels I would like to purchase but haven’t gotten around to, so I figure the best way to get on top of that is to do a spring cleaning and get all the extra art I have now into the hands of fellow fans who will cherish it. To that end, I figured it would be best to shop them around here first before sending anything off to eBay.

As you can see in the post photos, the cels have been grouped into thirteen lots of five cels each, many but not all including their matching douga (pencil sketches), with each lot priced at between $80-$100 (prices for each image listed below this paragraph)— each lot will also include two or more random in-between/partial frames (not worth photographing on their own) as additional bonuses. I also have a few additional lots of cels from Beast Wars Neo which I’ll share here in the near future. I’m doing it like this since I simply do not have the number of correctly-sized boxes on hand to ship every single one individually and figure this way will move things along quicker while also allowing me to keep prices cheaper. On that note, shipping within the US is $5 flat for orders of any size but will cost more for international buyers depending on your location — I do use PirateShip so the rates I can offer will be the cheapest possible.
