The trendiness of healthcare and medicine related careers has nothing to with people being actual humanitarians and instead working as a cover up for the rise in antagonistic personality disorders
I know I'm making a very bold claim here, but allow me to elaborate. And I'm gonna trust my intuition on this one. Can I just be given the benefit of the doubt in the opening post? Then y'all decide for yourselves if I'm bullshitting or if I'm onto something. But give the opening post a chance, please. Because Reddit already has a tremendous tendency to judge a book by its cover.
Ok. Onto the main point.
The reason I say this is because I noticed that most of these jobs and careers in medicine, healthcare, and physical care started becoming trendy as hell out of nowhere Right after COVID. If you want to take it a step further, right during the peak of the social media boom era, which was like late 2000s to mid-2010s-ish.
And at the same time, a lot of the antagonistic personality disorders, like antisocial personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, narcissism and oppositional defiant disorder have been steadily on the rise for the like last 3 decades or so.
Also, a lot of healthcare workers and nurses especially have been found to have high rates of psychopathic, sociopathic and narcissistic traits compared to the general population, but whether it's the exposure to people's health and medical problems or if the occupations attract those people is where the chain of causation may get more interesting to investigate.
But I mean, think about it. You could literally work in the medical industry and use that as kind of like a PR shield. People will think that you're a saint and that any of your humanitarian offenses can be covered up with the fact that you work in healthcare as a means of protective social barricading.
Never mind ALSO the exceptionally high rates of sexual violence, racial discrimination, child abuse and socioeconomic class based discrimination that happen in the industry.
If you think I am bullshitting, that's fine. But don't just dunk on me, criticize the point constructively, but at the very least try to see where I am coming from.
