PROD
PROD (Profound Retrocognition OverDrive) is a custom one-off bass-dedicated mod/clone of the Electra/COT-50 circuit a buddy has made for me years ago. I received the guts only, broke them like a klutz immediately after receiving the package, and the sorry mess spent a decade in a drawer. Recently I finally learned some basic electronic skills and fixed it, and designed the enclosure and controls layout.
It's a drive pedal and its primary function is to push dirt pedals and make them sound more retro. It also works rather well on its own. It runs an all-time classic 2N5088 transistor into a symmetrical duo of diodes and has an extra clipping section.
* Lightning Toggle = selection between Drive (small bolt; status LED goes blue) and Overdrive (big bolt; status LED goes red)
* L knob = Level (self-explanatory)
* S knob = Sizzle (reversed bias, works only with Overdrive and goes from compressed and warm - essentially a slightly boosted Drive mode - at zero to sizzly but not velcro-ish when dimed)
* Purple selector = rotary switch for clipping mode selection; clockwise it goes from no extra clipping (warm, least dirty), single asymmetric Schottky diode (slightly less warm, slightly more dirty) and a symmetric array of two Schottky diodes (quieter, least warm, lows cut and the most crunch).
My old yellow and black tool meets my new yellow and black tool
After spending two weeks pondering the idea of getting my first own drill/driver and dedicating a budget of a hundo for it, I obviously tripled it and went with one of the best options I could get for my absolute ceiling budget. Having studied reviews and opinions and caveats, this little monster - DCD805 - impressed me the most. Liking it a lot so far.
