DCD708 not working. Warranty no longer valid. Self-repair? Send it in? Find a local repair shop?
(See video) When I pull the trigger on my DCD708 the drill spins for a fraction of a second then stops. I've tried multiple (fully charged) batteries, both positions of the speed switch, and both directions, with and without a bit in the chuck.
I found this video with instructions on how to take the drill apart, and if I go this route hopefully my problem is as simple as his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgJA3RxD_9A
Any other suggestions? Should I avoid attempting repairing this myself and send it in, or find a local repair shop? I'm reasonably comfortable taking apart and putting together electronics - I have plenty of experience doing so with PCs, laptops, and some cell phones, so I'm pretty sure I could handle this.

This duo has been a game changer for me. You like?
New to the whole construction scene. I needed a new angle grinder, found a killer deal.
The blade cuts metal like butter. The grinder is fast and quite easy to work. The battery gives each tool so much juice to work with.

Help Me Understand
Alright, this is no troll post, all my tools are dewalt 20v.
However, I’m in the market for a 20v string trimmer and pruner (don’t want or need the different 60v platform), and Ryobi just seems to have the better option here. My Dewalt trimmer (which always vibrated like crazy) died after 2.5 years (the Ryobi is attachment-capable), The Dewalt pruner is brushed and bulky.
I could list other examples in the 20v OPE line. I just really don’t understand. It’s like they’re not even trying to compete.
Do we think Dewalt will up their game here or should seriously consider other options?

12V vs 20V Circular Saw Question
Lowe’s in my area currently has a 5-3/8” 12V Circular Saw (DCS512B) for $99. I had a Skil that used that same size blade, but it’s old and the batteries don’t stay charged anymore.
I didn’t use that saw too often, but have a couple DIY projects coming up on my honey-do list that could use that.
My question is whether I stay with 20V (or even 60V) platform i already have and get a bigger 7-1/4 or add to the collection and step down to that 12V? I would be ripping plywood sheets down to useable sizes.
