Solution for one big focusing issue with X100VI

pal2tech on YouTube is explaining one of my biggest questions about Fujifilm Autofocus Problems. It may be a salvation for some of you:

Shortly explained, "focus priority" is what you need to focus first and then taking the shot. If the camera can't do that, you will probably get a lot of unsharp photos, because it takes photos before the lens "reaches" the right focusing position (You hear the shutter and you think you took a good photo, right?).

If the option "AF+MF" is ON - "focus priority" will simply not work !!
So you set "AF+MF" to OFF and "focus priority" is your best friend ;-)

Thank You very much, pal2tech !

Success moving from LR to Darktable - Do you have questions?

Hi people, I want to encourage those who are still unsure to make the switch.

I started to use Darktable at the beginning of this year. It was absolutely enriching for me and my whole process of developing my photos. It was a hard cut!

1st I made sure that I exported all of the photos that I already finally edited from Lightroom as good quality jpgs. This was easy, because since years I'm marking all final pictures with 1 or 2 stars.

Then I deleted all of my Lightroom Catalogs (forever!) and I even deleted MS Windows (forever!). I then installed a Linux-Distro that is able to work with the latest NVIDIA Graphics card and installed Darktable.
From this moment on I learned Darktable and finally made my own styles for developing RAW Files.

Now - 8 months later - I know that Darktable has more to offer than Lightroom and my workflow is just so easy, fast and a fun to use. No more frustration, no more program crashes, no more catalog-problems, no more slowing down of editing tools after 10 minutes of using Lightroom.

I never thought I could handle Darktable so easy!

Here are some random examples ...

Please feel free to ask me anything about it!

One of my first streetphotos - London 2014 - What do you think?

Hi there!

I started street photography a long time ago, even before I knew such a thing existed. I used to travel with my family and was getting a little bored of taking the same photos of “standing in front of a famous landmark and smiling."

So I remember deciding to take photos of people and the funny things that they sometimes do.

And so I was lucky to take this shot at Trafalgar Square in October 2014. I think it was kind of a bachelorette party? What do you think? Please leave me a comment.

And if you're interested, please look at my Flickr site:

One Year ago - my first steps with a new system - Fujifilm X100F

It was in June 2025 when I decided to give a try to the Fujifilm X100F. Until then I was using Nikon Z for example. I wanted to know why everyone is talking an vlogging about this style of cameras and if there is something more important than only the classic look and the hype over a nice accessory. By chance the first photos came out very good and so I wanted to get more experience. I couldn't explain why these photos were more appealing and looked more photo-like then those out of my other cameras I owned before. I even cannot explain it today. But it is not only the "film recipes" that are very pleasing. Even without any film simulation (for example using Darktable) the sensor captures a good image that is very versatile and gentle to post process. The fact that I can take this relatively small device everywhere I go with no effort is more important than I ever thought.

Photos from Prague with my X100VI

It was a long journey in trying out and experimenting with the fujifilm x100f and later the x100vi . Using digital cameras for more than 20 years from Canon, Pentax, Panasonic, Nikon etc. I was very curious how this little fixed lens thing can improve my Streetphoto experience.

Over the last year or so I bought and sold the x100f and the x100vi more than 2 times because I was disappointed about the results, mostly because of the bad autofocus (face recognition).

But stop! All fault was on my side! I simply was not able to get those cameras working as I wanted. Also It takes time and effort to get familiar with such a genius tool in your hand that can do anything when you treat it right!

Here You see some of my Photos from a trip to Prague in March 2026. Please be free to see my other work here at Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jenshochberg
