Margaret Carpenter Park Playground & Water Play Survey

There’s a huge redesign coming to Carpenter soon! Make your voice heard, tell them what you want the playground and sprayground to be like. See link for the current concept. MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD! You can effect changes to this park still, it’s in the planning stages.

If you’re at Thorntonfest today they have a huge tent set up (and are handing out FREE sunglasses). Go and talk to Will and the team. Tell them what your family would like to see at Carpenter! Big changes are happening in the next year.

Snakes and Tortoises at Thorntonfest!

Several snakes and a couple tortoises! You can pet and hold the snakes. Huge turnout so far. I heard there might be birds later when it cools down.

Doctor called Mom instead of me

I called the after hours answering service because my baby girl has a fever and is acting lethargic. I gave them my name and phone number and they said the pediatrician would call me back within 30 minutes.

I carried my phone in my hand at the pharmacy so I wouldn’t miss the call back, got her some infant Motrin and Tylenol and bought a new thermometer. I got back home and took her temperature. I then received a text message that she has an appointment scheduled tomorrow morning. I asked my wife about it and she said she’d spoken to the doctor while I was out.

Am I wrong to be angry with the doctor about this? My daughter is in my care. I left my name and my phone number with the operator. Why would they call Mom when Dad left the message? My instinct is that I should advocate for myself in this situation. It feels like gender discrimination but maybe I’m being overly sensitive, this is my daughter’s first illness and I’m feeling depleted.

Maybe Mom was just listed first in their filing system, but I’ve noticed a pattern of people defaulting to her when it comes to our child. I was home for five minutes and had to ask before my wife said she talked to the doctor. I’m the more proactive partner when it comes to scheduling, appointments, business, etc. and am concerned about my child and the whole consultation just happened without me.

ETA: My wife saw this post and commented. She’s 100% certain that I am the primary phone number and that my number was given first when we started at the pediatrician. I am also the only one of us to get scheduling texts from the office. So it is apparently a choice and not a mistake.
