I have found that there is a lot of valuable lore & character information hidden in the Daizukan and it seems to be pretty underutilized by this community. I figured I would start a series to contribute in a positive way by sharing translations and possibly jump starting some good discussions.

I want to note that I went through this page-by-page with Claude to help translate and then used my own understanding of Japanese and the manga to spot-check. There will probably be a few sections with weird phrasing, translation errors, etc. especially when talking about terms that don't exist outside the manga. I.E. take things with a grain of salt.

Also note that this Daizukan came out early August of 2025, so spoilers or any direct references past that point would have been avoided (although foreshadowing, etc. was surely on the table).

A fair-skinned gyaru with big-sister energy

A classmate who always hangs out with Momo and Kei. Her trademark is her hair tied up on the top of her head. After hearing about how Okarun got into a fight with some guys for Momo's sake, she evaluated him as a "good guy." She occasionally shows her older-sister side by chiding Momo.

With sharp thinking and bold imagination, she uncovers the truth behind the bizarre phenomenon of Momo, Okarun, and Aira appearing naked! ...Except she's completely wrong!

A friendly, dark-skinned gyaru

Just like Miiko, she is Momo's close friend and classmate. She's a kuro-gyaru (dark-skinned gyaru) with flashy makeup, but maybe she got tired of it, because lately she's been a bit more subdued...? Perhaps because she's worried her beloved Momo will be taken away, she often directs a sense of rivalry toward Okarun.

While she rivals Okarun, she also shows signs of supporting his relationship with Momo. When Jiji transferred in, she provided backup fire by refusing to recognize him as Momo's boyfriend because Okarun is around!

A girl with a faint presence, forced to attack Momo

A girl in Year 1, Class E - plain, with an unnoticeable impression. When miniaturized Momo was exploring the library, Koki chased Momo around calling out to her as if urging her to submit. A certain person had her weakness in their grip, and she was acting on their orders...!? Afterward, she's discovered by Aira and the others, and the "little old men" (小さいおじさん) fight back with their power to protect her!!

Long bangs hide her true face

Her long, grown-out black hair looks as though she is trying to avoid the eyes of others. Her face is completely hidden. Because of her gloomy appearance, her classmates reportedly whisper behind her back, calling her a "ghost."

Rigid uniform with a below-the-knee skirt

Compared to Momo and Aira, her skirt is considerably long. Her black stockings further reinforce her plain appearance. This is likely an expression of Koki's desire "not to be noticed."

Background

A lonely daily life, tormented by past success... (過去の成功に苛まれた孤独な日常…)

As a child, Koki drew attention as a prodigy pianist. Now, however, that position belongs to her younger sister. Longing to be praised by someone, she posts photos of herself in her underwear on social media, but...

Purpose

Targeting Momo to steal her powers

Blackmailed over her social media posts, Koki pursues Momo in order to steal her abilities. The small knife she held at the time is thought to be a medium capable of absorbing abilities once the opponent is subjugated and harmed, identical to the one held by the Count of Saint-Germain. Furthermore, the Little Men gathered around Koki to save her when she was cornered!

Power

Commanding the Little Men (?)

She directs a massive army of miniature people, invisible to normal humans, to perform attacks and defense. Whether this is Koki's own ability or the autonomous actions of the Little Men themselves remains a mystery...?

The Little Men work as one to carry the unconscious Koki away so she can escape. If they were entities born strictly from Koki's ability, they should disappear when their master loses consciousness, but...

Things of Note / My Thoughts

Not a whole lot of major lore in these, but I found them fun!

The note about Kei being jealous of Okarun early but that warming up to him was cute. Also her dislike being silence is great.

I wonder if Miko's deduction capabilities are about to come in handy with Zuma to help uncover mystery of the stolen powers!

Tsubame and Anzu liking sweet and spicy foods respectively is funny. Also nice call out to Jiji (Evil Eye) getting them back together with Aira.

I got the impression there is a lot of modern Japanese slang in this section. Like コスパ・タイパ is apparently a combo of two buzzwords:

• コスパ (Kosupa): Short for コストパフォーマンス (Cost Performance). This is the equivalent of "value for money" or "bang for your buck." If something has bad kospa, it means it is overpriced for what you get, or requires too much financial investment for a low reward.
• タイパ (Taipa): Short for タイムパフォーマンス (Time Performance). This is a much newer term that entered the Japanese language heavily in the 2020s. It means "time efficiency" or "bang for your time" (like watching movies or Netflix on 1.5x or 2x speed).

The note implying Kouki's "Little Men" not necessarily being tied to her powers might have some interesting implications. Perhaps she'll still have access to them even after losing her "Lord of the Flies" power.

A "person with abilities" who can see spirits?! (霊が見える“能力者”⁉)

In order to face problems together with her students, she would sometimes attend exorcisms with them. As a result of repeating these activities, she apparently became someone with spiritual abilities. Could she have also witnessed many of the school's various supernatural anomalies?

Merciless punishment for unfairness and bad manners?! (卑怯・無作法には容赦ないおしおき⁉)

Perhaps because she has been handling bullying consultations for many years, she does not tolerate actions that hurt people! Even if it is just a minor breach of manners, she will instantly correct it with a slap or her punishment stick!!

Bullying is absolutely unforgivable! The sharp-eyed school nurse. (いじめは絶対に許さない！眼光鋭い養護教諭)

A school nurse in the health room of Kamigoe High School who takes care of the sick and injured, and even takes on consultations for troubled students. She gives off a harsh impression with her stern expression and bondage-style uniform, but she is a reliable teacher who always tries to protect the weak. However, because her sense of justice is too strong, she will instantly dole out punishment to anyone she deems "evil"!

Things of Note / My Thoughts

So I've been stewing on a theory since reading this Daizukan page, because I legitimately think it might be one of the most interesting pages in the book. I'm going to just start with the conclusion and then I'll explain my reasoning: Queen is a former member of the Black Paladins.

Let's take a look at some of the evidence.

• Let's start with the obvious: Her name. Queen disappeared for over ~150 chapters only to pop up multiple times in the last 60. Why did Tatsu suddenly bring someone named Queen back into the picture right when we're dealing with a bunch of "nobles" and fairy tale references?
• Her powers. First of all, she has them and they seem strangely similar to something akin to a Sin-Eater. Literally "stealing, but for good". Second, The story she tells is that she just acquired powers passively from attending exorcisms? That seems sus as hell and does not fit cleanly into the mechanisms we've been shown for powers and curses.
• Look at the background pattern on her page. That's a a classic European-style floral "damask" of roses. She the only character in the entire Daizukan to get such a unique background. That isn't something you just do for fun.

• Her hobby and peculiarity. Horseback riding is a strangely aristocratic hobby for a humble school nurse, as is an obsession with genuine leather goods and dominatrix-ing.

Ok, but how and why would a Black Paladin be working as a school nurse at a random Japanese school?

Here is a tldr; of my full theory, which probably won't make sense until you see the details:

Queen was a former high-ranking member of one of the families in the Black Paladins who was exiled or otherwise escaped after being deposed and her children (or at least sons) killed. As part of this exile, she likely lost her memories and access to her powers. She found her way to Japan and while there, she became a follower of Kannon. Her powers re-awakened due to exposure to spiritual events and, perhaps, practicing the Heart Sutra.

Now a few more notable observations before I get into the meat of the theory...

First, look at what she has an obsession with: Beating up bullies. Who are the biggest bullies we've seen? These motherfuckers:

They even have the "schoolyard" bully, Hase, with them now.

Second, Kannon is the Japanese name for a Buddhist diety who is the Bodhisattva of compassion/mercy. A couple of things about Kannon:

• She is strongly associated with the Heart Sutra, which Queen's profile notes as her special skill.
• She is typically depicted wearing open chested white robes*,* a necklace, and a crown. So say something like this?

Now that is all good and dandy, but here is where things get really interesting. During the Edo period in Japan, when Christianity was banned and punishable by death, some underground Christian groups venerated Jesus and the Virgin Mary by disguising them as statues of Kannon holding a child; such statues are known as Maria Kannon. (There's a section of the Tokyo National Museum that talks about this). Both are famous mothers, which is important because...

She was possibly also a mother and the former head of a house. Perhaps even the former leading house (her name is Queen after all).

Now, what if she was originally a commoner, not a noble, leading to her downfall?

Tatsu has been drawing really strong parallels to European historical figures when it comes to the Black Paladins. There is one historical figure that seemingly fits the bill perfectly: Elizabeth Woodville, the "White Queen" from the War of the Roses. I'm not going to explain her whole story here nor that of the War of the Roses (there is way too much for one post), but there are a couple of notable things about her that are key here:

• She was a "commoner" that King Edward IV married against the wishes of his advisors
• She become Queen Dowager upon Edward IV's sudden death
• Her male children were executed and she was stripped of all titles (she was also accused of witchcraft).

Elizabeth Woodville’s primary historical tragedy is defined by her children, the Princes in the Tower, who were usurped, imprisoned, and likely murdered by Richard III (also a famous mystery as they technically were never proven dead). If Queen-sensei is a Dandadan's version of this figure, her losing her children to the machinations of the Black Paladins, being forced into exile, and having her mind wiped to "neutralize" her feels like pretty standard operating procedure for an evil secret society.

If the Black Paladins or Vlad himself wiped her memories when she was exiled, it beautifully tees up the core tragedy of her character: She doesn't consciously know she was a (potentially) ruthless European occult matriarch, nor does she remember the children she might have lost or been forced to abandon.

As we've seen from Momo, even if you wipe someone’s memories, you cannot wipe their soul's core instincts. Her absolute, terrifyingly aggressive obsession with "protecting the weak from bullies" and her favorite things being "children" would be her subconscious screaming to make up for the past. What if she is fiercely guarding the students of Kamigoe High because, deep down in her locked memories, she carries the profound trauma of failing to protect her own family?

Holy aura farm

Not only that, but she even perhaps gave herself the name Queen (note she also does not have a surname, like Seiko) due to these latent emotions.

It would also explain why her design is such a bizarre contradiction. She dresses like a strict, leather-clad authority figure with a leather punishment club, but her actual desire is to heal, nurture, and be a maternal figure to troubled kids. If she was a Matriarch of a Black Paladin house, that "punishment" aesthetic is left over from her past life, but her amnesiac self is desperately trying to channel it into a benevolent, protective role.

A memory-wiped, exiled European mother wandering into Japan and instinctively gravitating toward Kannon (the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, Compassion, and Maternal Protection) makes total sense as well. Her fragmented soul was naturally drawn to the ultimate spiritual symbol of a mother's mercy to heal the gaping, invisible wound in her mind.

And here is another thing, what if she wasn't lying about gaining powers from being near exorcisms and other rituals? (she hates liars after all). What if she just doesn't realize that she didn't gain those powers from those events, but rather she just reawakened her latent powers by being consistently near spiritual phenomena? What would this then mean for Momo's current situation?

Perhaps, she is even Red Baron's former liege. If he came from a house whose current reputation was in the gutter, this would explain his pathetic attempts at simping for Vlad and his outward distaste for "commoners".

One final little note here:

Alice lore also has a White Queen. In the original story she behaves erratically because she lives backwards in time to a degree, she is also trying to find her daughter Lily. There are perhaps even more interesting parallels within Tim Burton's 2010 film. In the movie, The Red Queen has banished her sister out of jealousy; The White Queen, having taken a vow never to harm another living thing, is helpless to fight back and must wait years for the "Frabjous Day," when a "champion" will arrive and slay the Jabberwocky. Which might I add, in the original poem is slain by the famous vorpal sword.

Could Momo and/or Okarun be that champion, and is Queen-sensei just waiting for the right moment to reclaim her throne?

Seiko (星子)

Appearance is of an Unknown Age (見た目は年齢不詳)

Although Momo calls her "Grandma," Seiko looks incredibly young, making her actual age completely unidentifiable. She is also possessor of striking beauty, and when she lets her hair down, she has the vibe of a glamorous, mature older sister!

Weapon is a bat (with gimmick) (武器はバット（ギミック付き）)

She always carries a baseball bat for work. It's not just for hitting supernatural beings — there's a gimmick where a pencil extends from the tip of the bat! She uses this to draw circles and create barriers!

Main Description

Foul-mouthed but skilled — a beautiful-witch spirit medium (口は悪いが腕の立つ美魔女霊媒師)

The grandmother who took in young Momo and lives with her. On television, she's active as the psychic "Santa Dodoria" (ドドリア三太), but her true identity is a skilled spirit medium. Although she casually refers to herself as a "fake medium" her reputation is excellent, exorcism requests come pouring in from all over the country. She's rough with her words, but her love for Momo and the kids is deep!

Personality (性格)

Strict about right and wrong, but kind to children (道理に厳しく子供たちに優しい)

Seiko loves the children around her without discrimination. However, when they do something unreasonable, she gives them a proper scolding. Her words carry weight, and the children accept them without protest.

Knowledge (知識)

Rich knowledge regarding the supernatural (怪異に関する知識が豊富)

She has deep knowledge of urban legends, and is also well-versed in supernatural entities that aren't widely known to the general public. Her knowledge of exorcism is also abundant, and she recites various incantations.

Abilities

She excels at powerful barrier techniques. By drawing a circle and stabbing protective talisman nails on the outside of the circle, a powerful barrier is completed in an instant! She can seal supernatural entities inside the barrier, or block external supernatural beings from entering. Because she borrows power from the local deities, she is practically matchless within Kamigoe City!?

Daily Investigation: Seiko (日常調査)

While she always seems to be lounging around watching "Baka Tono," Seiko strictly gets her work done when it matters. Could this perfectly balanced, high-contrast lifestyle be the secret to maintaining her youth?

Investigation Report 01: TV work she's not great at (苦手なTVの仕事)

Her work as the masked Santa Dodoria on TV. She apparently dislikes it, and the TV producers find her highly suspicious. However, she demonstrates her real ability in things like seeing through an idol's lies.

02: Deep down, she's always thinking about her grandchild (心の底ではいつでも孫を想っている)

She gives the impression of nothing but harsh words, but when Momo headed off to battle Turbo Granny, she embraced her tightly and showed strong affection. Despite her harsh exterior, she is always worrying about her granddaughter in her heart.

04: The rematch with her fated rival Turbo Granny...!? (因縁のターボババアとの再戦は…！？)

Once her spiritual power returned, Turbo Granny left the house. Despite their frequent clashes, she had become a kindred housemate for Seiko. Seiko puts on a tough front regarding Turbo Granny's absence, but Momo sees right through it to her loneliness.

Momo (モモ) Her beloved granddaughter. By providing training and advice regarding the supernatural, she tries to protect Momo in her own way.

Okarun (オカルン) Seiko belongs to the "I'll slaughter any shitty punk who tries to seduce my granddaughter" camp. However, after witnessing Okarun's courage, she gradually comes to accept him.

Turbo Granny (ターボババア) A companion she spent her days with despite constant bickering. Was there perhaps a mutual understanding shared between old ladies?

Manjiro (溝次郎) Though he looks like a weirdo, he is a highly capable Shinto priest and Seiko's disciple. She frequently summons him to help out with her work.

My Thoughts / Things of Note

I've been stewing on a theory I have seen tossed around this sub pretty frequently, and after reading Seiko's profile I'm pretty convinced: Seiko is a long-lived human who has a similar background to the legend of Yao Bikuni, the folklore figure who accidentally consumed the flesh of a Ningyo (mermaid-like creature) and lived for 800+ years.

The Historical Clues

If you look at how Seiko interacts with the modern world, she behaves exactly like someone who belongs to a completely different era:

• Seiko isn't given a last name in the Daizukan. Prior to the Meiji Era (late 1800s), commoners in Japan did not possess surnames. If Seiko predates the Meiji Restoration, she literally wouldn't have a last name to give.
• Her official motto is listed as "宵越しの銭は持たない" (Yoigoshi no zeni wa motanai), which translates to "Don't keep your earnings overnight." It is a famous idiom from the Edo Period where is was more like "A true child of Edo does not keep money overnight". It defined the live-for-the-now philosophy of the old Edokko (Edo townspeople) centuries ago.
• Seiko does not own a smartphone, and she lives in an traditional Japanese home with heavily limited modern technology. Her favorite hobby is listed as watching old show re-runs like Baka Tono.

The Mechanical Clues

• Seiko has a maxed-out rating for Anti-Aging (抗加齢).
• Her profile text states her appearance is of an "unknown age" and her actual age is completely unidentifiable.
• Because the Yao Bikuni curse begins with an act of consumption, Tatsu might be planting a hint with Seiko’s obsession with food. Her personal policy is literally: "To eat is to live" (食べることは生きること). Her listed favorite things include "children who eat a lot." Her daily schedule reveals she prioritizes and treasures mealtime above almost everything else.

The Visual Clues

• Her hair is styled in a very distinct style that almost mimics a flipped fish or mermaid tail fin or perhaps a Shachihoko (the mythical rooftop tiger-carp statues found on historic Japanese castles). Shachihoko are known as powerful protective water spirits used to guard sacred buildings (kind of like gargoyles I guess?).
• The detail in the appearance section where it notes "when she lets her hair down, she has the vibe of a glamorous, mature older sister!" Mermaids letting their hair down is a known motif (the supporting image in the Daizukan even seems to play into the typical mermaid pose), also, the older sister comment is interesting...almost implying she looks even more young than we thought.
• Seiko is shown wearing a Sukajan jacket featuring the embroidery of the Amabie, a multi-legged, beaked Japanese Ningyo (mermaid) yokai traditionally associated with longevity and warding off disease.

Interesting timing when we see this jacket too...

One other, more out-there theory. Perhaps Seiko is to Momo as the Kents were the Superman.

The "Momo is an alien" theory gets floated around here every once in awhile as well, but a little detail in this section of the Daizukan added some weight in my mind.

If Seiko is hundreds of years old, she has probably re-invented herself many times over, taking on new identities and perhaps even new...names? The kanji for Seiko is 星子.

• 星 (Sei): Star / Celestial Body
• 子 (Ko): Child

Literally translated, her name means "Child of the Stars." If Seiko is a centuries-old semi-immortal who found an alien baby crashed on Earth, taking on the name "Seiko" is a brilliant, tongue-in-cheek joke. She named herself after the most important thing in her current immortal lifespan: the Star Child she is protecting.

I’ve been looking closely at the setup of the current arc, and I am absolutely convinced Tatsu is laying the groundwork for a massive, classic kaiju brawl.

We all know Tatsu is a massive nerd for Kaiju and Ultraman, but the recent dinosaur additions point to something highly specific. Forget the "Pleasure Island/Pinocchio" theory for a second...we are actually heading straight to Skull Island.

Here is my breakdown of why an Oni-Kong vs. Godzilla fight is the logical conclusion to this arc.

The Stage is set for a Kaiju Battle

Tatsu has dropped too many specific details for a giant monster showdown not to happen:

• Okarun's Foreshadowing: Okarun literally went on a tangent recently about paleontology and how dinosaurs used to be drawn in a "Godzilla stance." He explicitly stated how much he loves that stance. Tatsu doesn't waste dialogue like that.

• Vamola's Suit is Ready: The manga explicitly called out that Vamola’s giant alien monster suit has been completely repaired. There is absolutely zero narrative reason to give us that update unless it is about to see heavy action.

• The Perfect Playground: The amusement park is based on the real Seibuen Amusement Park in Saitama, which has a famous Shōwa Retro Street — vintage Japanese architecture, penny candy shops, retro signage. Classic Tokusatsu Shōwa-era town setting. If you've watched any Godzilla or Ultraman, you know exactly what that architecture is for: it exists to be stomped on (Seibuen Amusement Park also has both a Godzilla and Ultraman ride).

Onikarun is the Opponent

If Vamola's suit is the "Godzilla" archetype in this fight, who is she fighting? The answer is Okarun, transformed by the Oni Club into a massive and bestial Oni.

• The Cursed Oni Club?: Okarun’s Oni club is a cursed object carrying the exact same mysterious seal as the Cursed Trunk. It is still unclear if Seiko/Manjiro actually gave him the club, or if there were shenanigans afoot. And we lack full knowledge of its mechanics. We've only ever seen it as a ki-amplified weapon that grows when fed enough spiritual power (specifically tied to Okarun wielding it).

• The Trigger Condition: Regardless of who gave it to him, when it comes to cursed objects, typically primal, heightened emotions are used as an "in" on their victims. Okarun's current headspace is prime real estate.
• The "Rock Bottom" Trope: Before a massive hero power-up, we almost always see the protagonist succumb to darkness or rage (think Naruto's Ninetails or Ichigo's Full Hollow). The hero loses control, the people around them get scared of them for a second, and then they pull back from the edge. Okarun is at his absolute emotional lowest point with Momo's amnesia, his power loss, and now his fear that she is with Jiji.

• The Subconscious Command: Okarun is currently knocked unconscious (or nearly there). His last strong emotion was a fierce, protective rage, telling the Dragon Knights they would deeply regret it if they touched a hair on Momo’s head.

Why King Kong?

Now let's be clear, I don't expect him to straight up turn into a giant gorilla, but likely some sort of visual hybrid between an Oni and Ape. However, the imagery Tatsu is pulling from heavily channels the 1933 King Kong:

• Dinosaurs = Skull Island: People (myself included) immediately jumped to Jurassic Park or Gantz after the dinosaur scenes. However, the specific moment Jiji gets swallowed by the Brachiosaurus mirrors a quite famous scene: the unexpectedly violent Brontosaurus swamp scene from the 1933 King Kong movie. The sudden release of dinosaurs pivots us away from Pinocchio's Pleasure Island and straight into Skull Island territory.

• Beauty and the Beast Motif: Since we are focused on fairy tales*...King Kong* is fundamentally a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, down to it's famous line. This perfectly mirrors the internal and external narrative of the arc: Momo represents the "Beauty" to Okarun's tragic "Beast." A monster who cannot communicate his love, destroying everything around him in an act of desperate protection. The internal arc of this entire manga has been Okarun struggling to express his feelings for Momo, watching her not remember him, being emotionally incapable of bridging the gap. It functions both externally and internally. Okarun's own lack of confidence leaves him feeling he is not charming, attractive, or cool enough for Momo.

• The Momo/Ann Darrow Connection: Ann Darrow calms Kong. She's the one thing that can reach the beast. In the current arc, Momo doesn't remember Okarun. She has no idea why she should feel anything for this boy who is apparently willing to get beaten to death on her behalf. If Okarun transforms into a rampaging Oni-monster and still comes to find her, protect her, instinctively, through sheer unconscious drive and she looks at the monster and somehow sees him...the boy underneath, and calls out his real name...

• Other Lore Influences: The series has never hidden its debts. Vamola's suit is built out of Ultraman kaiju DNA. The Kaiju Arc was essentially a Tokusatsu homage episode. Tatsu has stated his deep affection for the Ultraman franchise. The Toho connection is also direct: King Kong has deep roots in Japanese pop culture through the 1962 King Kong vs. Godzilla and the 1967 King Kong Escapes, both Toho productions. An "Oni King Kong vs. Godzilla" fight in this arc would be Tatsu drawing a direct line between his love for Ultraman kaiju, Toho monster movies, and the OG 1933 film that started it all.

My Predicted Climax (Beat for Beat)

Based on the evidence, here is how the narrative dominoes are likely to fall, building up to an epic homage to King Kong's Empire State Building (ESB) finale:

• The Awakening: Okarun's intense, subconscious desire to protect Momo resonates with the Oni club. It feeds off his raw emotions, cursing him and transforming him into a giant, bestial "Oni" physically reminiscent of King Kong. He immediately rampages off to find her.

• The T-Rex Rescue (1933 King Kong): Momo finds herself completely cornered by a T-Rex. Suddenly, BAM! "Onikarun" bursts into the frame and saves her, kicking off a brutal monster fight that perfectly mirrors Kong's iconic battle against the T-Rex in the 1933 film. Anyone who is vaguely interested in Kaiju/monster movies knows about this scene. It's effectively the OG Kaiju fight scene.

• The Grab and Run: After killing the T-Rex, Onikarun scoops Momo up and flees. This is also a nice callback to the "Mini-Momo" arc inverted.

• Enter Godzilla: With the group convening, Vamola’s repaired Kaiju suit is the only logical option left to contain a giant, rampaging Oni. Perhaps assisted by Kinta (Mecha Godzilla anyone?), this kicks off a full Godzilla vs. Kong brawl right through the fake Showa-era town.

• The Ferris Wheel Climax (The ESB Scene): Onikarun ends up climbing the park's Ferris wheel while holding Momo—a brilliant subversion of the classic anime "Ferris wheel romance" trope mixed with King Kong climbing the Empire State Building. Okarun previously researched the park's Ferris wheel (as a potential spot to surely take Momo) after all.

• The Memory Breakthrough: Just like Ann Darrow calming Kong, Momo looks past the monster and sees the boy protecting her. She calls out his real name (breaking through her amnesia), which snaps Okarun out of the rage and breaks the transformation. This would be the memory arc resolution: Momo's amnesia doesn't break because of a plot device it breaks because Okarun, even transformed into a monster, is still unmistakably Ken to her. Tatsu flips the tragedy into a reunion, Beauty saves the Beast instead of dooming him.

Tatsu has put all the ingredients on the table: the Showa town, the amusement park, the Ferris wheel, the dinosaurs, and the Oni themes. It would be a crime not to execute a full Kaiju battle here.

Seeing rumblings (unconfirmed so far) around social media that the Korean MangaPlus app got the release date wrong and dropped the new chapter early for a short period of time before pulling it.

I have found that there is a lot of valuable lore & character information hidden in the Daizukan and it seems to be pretty underutilized by this community. I figured I would start a series to contribute in a positive way by sharing translations and possibly jump starting some good discussions.

I want to note that I went through this page-by-page with Claude to help translate and then used my own understanding of Japanese and the manga to spot-check. There will probably be a few sections with weird phrasing, translation errors, etc. especially when talking about terms that don't exist outside the manga. I.E. take things with a grain of salt.

Also note that this Daizukan came out early August of 2025, so spoilers or any direct references past that point would have been avoided (although foreshadowing, etc. was surely on the table).

At the end of each post, I'll share some of my own thoughts about anything that stood out.

When she first met Momo and the others, she could only parrot back words that were said to her, and her vocabulary was limited. However, as she spent time with her companions and learned Japanese, she gradually became capable of natural conversation!

Clothing can be copied! (衣服はコピー可能！)

One of the abilities of the suit she always wears — she can copy any clothing she sees. The accuracy is high, producing results that look just like the real thing! When she first moved into the Ayase household, she didn't have any Earth clothes, so after that she wears Momo's hand-me-downs.

Her appearance is a lovely beautiful girl — her true identity is a Sumerian! (見た目は可憐な美少女 その正体はシュメール人！)

A girl raised as a Sumerian on a certain planet. Driven from her homeland, she comes to Earth, but is pursued by invaders from outer space, and as a result ends up drawing them to Earth. At first she's regarded as an enemy by Momo and the others, but they fight together to defend Earth!! Now she's completely settled in as a member of the group, getting along with everyone and having a good time.

Because the males have been captured by the invaders, there are no children among the Sumerians other than Bamora. To protect her, many Sumerians threw themselves into battle.

When being sent off to Earth, Banga told her: "If you're going to be with someone, a kind and strong man is best." So she has been searching for a man stronger than herself. She believes that Okarun defeated her, and so...?

Originally a suit worn by invaders created by Big Mama, its design is modeled after a Sumerian god. Through gigantification it provides high attack power and stealth capabilities to dominate the battlefield, supporting her companions' battles!!

Packed with extraterrestrial super-technology, even Bamora herself can't grasp all of its capabilities. The attack power when wearing the suit is already quite high, but with gigantification, turning invisible, and more, it can demonstrate power in all kinds of situations. It can even generate "Empty Space" (虚空) — its potential is limitless!!

Turn transparent with projection technology (投影技術で透明に)

Through "Retroreflective Projection Technology" (再帰性投影技術), the suit can appear transparent and escape the opponent's notice! It can also be used while in gigantified state.

Generate Empty Space with the "Heartbeat Hide" technique! ("ドキドキ隠れる"やつで虚空を発生！)

She can intentionally generate Empty Space and find enemies hidden in other dimensions. When used at school, normal people can't see it — she discovered targets carried by little people.

Crush enemies with gigantification! (巨大化で敵を粉砕！)

Gigantifying to a size that exceeds buildings, her attack power is massively boosted! Fighting giant enemies in this form is just like a kaiju battle!! The powerful punches unleashed from that massive body are simply overwhelming.

Awakening of the Power (能力の目覚め)

To escape the Sumerian homeworld, Bamora headed to the Pyramid with Banga. At the moment of the warp, Vamola was given the suit modeled after a Sumerian god that Banga was wearing. Bamora was then transported to Earth alone.

Daily Investigation: Bamora (日常調査)

Through battle, then meeting friends and enjoying school life — Bamora is fully enjoying herself. Her encounters with Momo and friends from the beginning to now — hobbies, friendships — all revealed at once!!

Investigation Report 01: Appeared from inside a kaiju (怪獣の中から登場)

She was defeated by Momo and the others piloting the Great Kinta, then taken in by Okarun. For Okarun and the group, the development of a beautiful girl emerging from inside an enemy kaiju was apparently a shocking turn of events.

02: Passion for takoyaki (タコヤキへの熱意)

For Bamora, takoyaki may have been the first Earth food she ever ate? Since then, she associates everything with "takoyaki" and has become so fond of it that she tried to add it as a club activity.

She continues to live at the Ayase household, where various yokai and aliens come and go, and has now become completely part of the family. She sometimes even mediates the occasional arguments between Seiko and Turbo Granny...!?

He freely controls the Nanoskin, a tool given when Ludris repaired the Ayase household. Nanoskin operation requires the user's powers of imagination, so Kinta's imagination was a perfect fit. The transformation into giant robots in particular can be called a talent unique to Kinta, who has spent years researching robots.

A two-page original comic set in the classroom, where Kinta, Okarun and Jiji draw pictures of a cat and everyone reacts (the joke being Kinta can draw incredibly detailed mecha but is kinda bad at drawing organic things like cats). Okarun's is cute, and Jiji's looks like a small child drew it.

My Thoughts / Things of Note?

In regard to Vamola...

Takoyaki.

Food is clearly important for Tatsu and Dandadan overall. Vamola seems like the purest manifestation of that. I found her comic with Seiko to be especially heartwarming in that regard. Probably my favorite one in the entire Daizukan. It gets to the heart of what makes this manga great.

As an aside, Seiko is a perfect example of moms showing their love through food.

The part about mediating fights between Seiko and Turbo Granny was funny too. She's basically the expert in granny de-escalation between dealing with Banga and now Seiko.

I found it interesting that Empty Space is implied to be able to enter other dimensions, I know this isn't "new" per se, but it did get me thinking about Momo's powers and how they were also mentioned to be able to bridge dimensions by Rokuro. It slightly strengthens the Momo = alien theory a bit imo.

In regard to Kinta...

Interesting that class rep Rin made it into Kinta's list of people. Now that I think about it, a team-up between the two of them, with their...overactive imaginations could be really funny.

Other than that not much to it. Our boy likes robots and beautiful women.

I have found that there is a lot of valuable lore & character information hidden in the Daizukan and it seems to be pretty underutilized by this community. I figured I would start a series to contribute in a positive way by sharing translations and possibly jump starting some good discussions.

I want to note that I went through this page-by-page with Claude to help translate and then used my own understanding of Japanese and the manga to spot-check. There will probably be a few sections with weird phrasing, especially when talking about terms that don't exist outside the manga. I.E. take things with a grain of salt.

Also note that this Daizukan came out early August of 2025, so spoilers or any direct references past that point would have been avoided (although foreshadowing, etc. was surely on the table).

At the end of each post, I'll share some of my own thoughts about anything that stood out.

My Thoughts / Things of Note?

In regards to Aira...

Aira viewing Momo as a competitor gets a lot of attention. This, in my mind, plays in to the theory that her interest in Ken is at least partially predicated on competing with Momo. Would she still be interested if she "won"? Or would it be like her piano competition with Kouki? Does that piano fight back in the Evil Eye Arc perhaps have a deeper, symbolic meaning as well?

The daizukan reaffirms that Aira conflates a kiss with a confession. Not shocking she just tried the same move on Okarun as back in the Nessie Arc.

There has been a lot of talk recently on Jiji x Aira and the strongest evidence that seeds are being planted might sit right here. The Japanese used in Jiji's entry (つかず離れず、ほどよい距離感のジジ。仲間としては、憎からず思っている様子である。) is hard to translate properly. But 憎からず思う tends to carry a romantic subtext in the sense of saying you "don't dislike" someone (especially using the archaic/formal nikukarazu) is a common way to imply you actually like them, but are too proud, shy, or uncertain to say it directly. It's a bit tsundere-coded and implies there is a spark of chemistry that she is currently categorizing as "comradeship" to keep things uncomplicated. What would happen if all of the sudden she was "available" though?

In regards to Jiji...

The use of Shibo (思慕) for Jiji's feelings for Momo is a pretty clear signal on the direction things are going (if that wasn't obvious already).

It is essentially the tell that Jiji is the "noble loser" in this scenario. While it doesn't literally mean "you're going to lose," it is a word that describes the internal state of the person loving, rather than the dynamic of a couple. It emphasizes longing or yearning rather than interaction, it’s the go-to word for characters who watch from the sidelines or who have loved someone in silence for years.

A character experiencing shibo is usually portrayed as being okay with the other person’s happiness, even if it doesn't include them. It frames Jiji as a guardian. It suggests his love is so deep that it has moved past the need for possession and into the realm of pure support. By labeling Jiji’s feelings as shibo, it is basically acknowledging that his love is profound and sincere, but also inherently lonely. It gives him a "dignified exit" from the romantic race without devaluing how much he cares.

In that sense he quite literally plays the role of the White Knight under the framework of Alice in Wonderland.

The White Knight's structural function in Through the Looking Glass is to deliver Alice to the brook that separates the Seventh Square from the Eighth - the threshold she has to cross alone to become a queen. He fights for her, protects her, walks her to the edge of her transformation, and then watches her cross without him.

It feels almost too perfect a match for Jiji if Momo is currently undergoing a transformation arc centered around accepting her feelings and potentially growing her powers.

Add to that the similarities in the funny guy personas, playing the fool, but hiding a righteous strength underneath it. And that he saves her from the Red Knight (Baron)? (Oh and his horse wears anklets to guard against shark bites).

The White Knight bids farewell to Alice with a song. The lead up to that deals with a topic strangely similar to something of note in Dandadan right now: names.

>"It's long," said the Knight, "but very, very beautiful. Everybody that hears me sing it—either it brings the tears into their eyes, or else—"

In Through the Looking-Glass, the White Knight’s song is a lengthy, somewhat nonsensical distraction intended to keep Alice happy and safe for just a few more minutes before she crosses the final brook to become a Queen. He knows that once she crosses, she won't need him anymore. I believe Jiji holding Momo’s hand during her amnesia is the manga equivalent of that. And it perfectly encapsulates the bittersweet nature of 思慕 (Shibo)—that deep, yearning affection that the Daizukan highlights as core romantic motivation.

The White Knight is a character who is "sad" because he knows his role in Alice's life is fleeting, yet he performs it with total devotion. Given that Jiji's profile calls him a gentle soul who places a great deal of trust in Okarun, it seems like he’s fully accepted being the one who helps Momo reach her "Queen" status, even if he has to stay on his side of the brook.

It’s a beautifully tragic way to frame his character. He gets to be the hero and the first love, but as the Daizukan quotes highlight, his most defining moments are often about "protecting his friends" and being a "gentle warrior," even when it costs him his own heart’s desire.

I have been reading the JP comment sections for recent chapters on SJ+ to get a read on the state of the fandom over there.

They have been pretty unbothered so far, so I was pretty shocked to see the sentiment taking a sharp turn this week.

In the past there were a only a couple disgruntled comments with low amounts of votes, but this week's chapter seems to have finally been the breaking point for many Japanese fans:
