Stop signs
Hopping on the train of bad Barrie driver posts.
Stop signs are not a fucking suggestion. I was walking to the Essa Food Basics plaza around 5:00pm this evening to get some takeout, and while crossing the Coughlin/Emms intersection as I was over halfway across, someone blew the stop sign and came to a stop in the middle of the intersection to the right of me.
When I am in pedestrian mode I always fully stop at crossings, attempt to make eye contact with any driver that is there before walking across (other than you folks who I can't see with your stupid blackout tint, I'll wait for you to go first since I can't trust you see pedestrians), and try to gauge the speed and intent of vehicles approaching to decide if it's even safe to attempt crossing. I will also do the "courtesy trot" just to show I appreciate your time. But if someone is nearly fully across the road they shouldn't have to worry about getting hit or having to potentially jump out of the way of an incoming car.
I don't know when the Holly area became full of psychopath drivers. I lived on Brown St. from 1995-2016 and then Sunnidale/Cundles area until this year when I moved back to Emms in May, but I have been shocked lately. I have always been aware of the badass/cool youths who like to car hop and do other activities in this area, but never did I have to worry about getting hit by vehicles.
There are so many young people in this area, at the very least please think of them when you are driving in residential areas. You are nearly home, a few extra seconds coming to a complete stop will not change anything or ruin your evening however, hitting a pedestrian most definitely will.
Drive safe everyone and have a great weekend!
