My old belomo was 5x the size, and this was 15$ more expensive!!! Is worth the 50$ I paid for it or did I get ripped off with a mini one lol.
Hi all,
I’m looking for recommendations for field gear for field camp out in the bighorn. specifically hats/shirts. I am a ginger, so I need spf protecting stuff, and I get hot easy (I can barely stand it when it’s above 75* in my own house) so I need something relatively light.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Hello all, I believe you all may be a very valuable group to get the opinion of.
if you have made it this far I appreciate it already, it would be immensely appreciated if you could stick around a few longer and share whatever insight you have, regardless of what it is.
A little bit of context: am a senior in my universities geology program. I have an exceptionally low GPA because I initially came to school with the mindset of enjoying learning what I love about the subject, and getting out and getting job. This resulted in me essentially not doing any assignments I found that I already knew, or were boring, or outside of my interests, for my first ~2 out of 4 years. I was never not smart, my peers always came to me for help, I was just lazy. After getting some really good undergraduate research for 2 years, I have realized I do not think it will be possible for me to be fulfilled in a role that is not research either for industry or academia. I have received praise from many of my professors for it, and am getting a manuscript ready to submit for my potentially second publication, my last one I coauthored, this one I will 1st author.
I applied to a few graduate schools over the last year, and two of them have given me the same answer.
Essentially — We want you as a student here, but your GPA precludes us from admitting you. We need you to earn 9 masters creduts program before we can officially admit you for the geology m.s.
The first of two schools is an R2 institute. I have the opportunity to study with a professor that seems like they clearly want me there. In their email to me, they went as far to say as they “did everything they could”… they are also the department head. Unfortunately though, it seems this professor publishes very sparsely, with less than 300 citations in his career; but a few research awards. I also have extensive experience with the techniques and tools applied in his lab. After reaching out to this professor again, he thinks I should take a non thesis track, and has outlined the best path to do so. He believes he should be able to allocate G.A funding as soon as winter/spring semester, but of course there is no guarantee.
The other school is an R1, I am much less familiar with the research, but I believe it aligns closer with my long term goals. The professor has not expressed the same excitement to get me there and is on sabbatical, but their head of admissions committee reached out and told me I was still wanted despise their unability to admit me. I am waiting to make sure my general application is accepted before I reach out to this professor to see what he says, but this professor has ~6 times the citations in 2 years the other professor does in his career… If he shows interest a second time when I reach out, I think it makes this a really really difficult decision.
Regardless of where I go, I need to pay rent, and for 9 hours of out of state tuition.
Alternatively, I have the option to take 1 more semester at my undergraduate college, which allows me to replace to grades on my transcript, and when combined with ~4 additional credits this boosts my GPA above the schools minimum requirement. I would be able to stay at home and commute for this.
I am curious what everyone thinks. I have opportunity I may not get this clearly again, and even with how well I have preformed this semester, If I stay here can’t guarantee a 4.0 in all of my classes next semester needed to boost me above the requirement.
I am having a very difficult time with this, and am hoping to hear everyone’s insight. My research mentor is pushing me heavily towards grad school immediately, my parents are pushing me towards another semester.
I am the most conflicted I have ever been, and I don’t know what path to take.
Thank you in advance for any insight you share.
