Finnish Stock ID

Just picked up a gun and the shop owner let me take a look at some stocks he had. Picked this one out and came home with it. My Finn Cossack is in the stock currently, it is most certainly not a right fit. Not hugely familiar with the Finn stocks for some of the more notable guns. So what gun does this go to?

Saturday Safe Clean Time

American: 1898 Krag-Jorgensen, 1907 RIA 1903, Earlier 1950s Ithaca 37 Featherlight that needs a new stock, Ruger Police Service-Six with what might be a police rack number, Sears Model 54.
British/Canadian: Long Branch No4 MK1*, sporterized Maltby 1943 with matching bolt.
Swiss: 1939 production K31.
French: MAS-36 Vietnam Bring-back.
Spanish: Oviedo 1922 production 1893, sporterized 1954 La Coruna M43 (the most accurate rifle in the entire bunch).
Russian: 1954 Romanian M44, and the top of the “collection” - 1895 Cossack marked Dragoon rifle, Finnish Capture. Barrel is the right length, stock has been sporterized but was not matching. Still on the hunt to complete it.
Chinese: Mak-90 FTC Woodland Hills import.
Yugoslavian: sporterized M95M missing the correct bolt but with the intact magazine modification.
Japanese: 1st Series Nagoya Type 99.
Bottom Rifles: 1939 M38 Carcano Finnish Marked, Mannlicher 1888/90 (maybe, I kinda forgot to really look into this one), Belgian 1889/16 Carbine with a sporterized but matching stock that will most certainly be fixed, and my favorite: Austrian M95/30 refurb with matching numbers and no evidence of being sent outside of Austria, with a troop stamp on the buttplate indicating service in the Austrian mountain warfare units in WWI.

Only rifle missing is my 1916 Carcano Long Rifle with the “Tubatta” marking that is belong cleaned right now. All rifles with the exception of both Mosins are matching, the Romanian M44 is the only import marked one, the sporterized rifles are missing the matching hardware for the most part.

With the Stay Now Granted: CMP M14s.....

So with the stay granted, and everything right now as it is now: how is this going to affect the recent CMP M14 news? With the new video talking about over 100k being available, pricing under 2k, and the limit of 2 per buyer, this is a very cool opportunity (assuming that it doesn't turn out like the CMP Krags).

As far as I am aware; the only M14-style rifle truly banned by name in NJ is the Polytech M14S variant, which is basically a civilian Chinese carbon copy of the real-deal M14. The M14 has the three problems going for it; the 20rnd mag which can be addressed by pinning the mag aka not a huge deal. The main issue of course is the M14s flash hider and bayonet mount. This being all one unit makes it kind of interesting because you SHOULD just be able to grind down the bayonet lug and attach the flash hider since the hider and threaded barrel gets folded together. So it should be NJ compliant with a little work done because it only has the 1 "evil" feature now.

Here is where I always get confused when it comes to our laws; since the Polytech is the only M14 listed by name as being banned in NJ, shouldn't the CMP M14 be ok without any real legal hassle? It would come into NJ as a "substantially identical" rifle with the bayo mount and flash hider, but PTR 91s come in as "substantially identical" if they don't have a pinned muzzle brake. My LGS simply grinding down the lugs should make it ok if I am looking at it right. This is assuming of course we don't get any breaks from the courts with regards to the current lawsuits.

Single Player Only Concerns.

I’ve just downloaded Korea last night, played a few missions, started a career, etc. I’ve only played the suite of IL2 games (1946, Dover, GB) as a single player, haven’t touched multiplayer even a single time. Used PWCG for a really great GB experience, love all of the titles. Couple of thoughts here:

  1. UI and game is much more accessible and enjoyable in terms of certain things. Load times are very good, all of the additions in terms of the exams, the time skipping, and the myriad of quality of life improvements are leaps and bounds above GB. They really did put in the effort there. Graphics are very good, but it’s definitely more intensive. I’m running it with a 4060 and have to put the graphics down until I can get a newer card.
  2. Combat is very, very fun. GB but heavily updated. Sounds are extremely good, the F3 camera is very cinematic and I love it.
  3. I’m not seeing a whole lot of difference between the GB AI and the Korea AI. It’s not make or break for me, like I said I focus maybe less on the “hardness” of the combat and more on fun. However, it is maybe the major concern I have. Like others have said, you would think that this would be a major staple of this new engine and release.
  4. The AI voices suck, gonna be real. They sound choppy, inauthentic, and overall are a complete let down. They could have gotten like 10 members of the staff to record generic voiceovers and I would have been much more happy with that. It doesn’t take me out of the game, but it’s noticeable. The AI for the pilot profile pic is the same, very uncanny like all AI, but then again, the GB pilots didn’t look much better.

Here is my very major concern: Korea as a war-game theater is very underutilized and underrated. That being said, maybe it’s just me, but I have a weird feeling that one of two things is gonna happen. First thought is that Korea is just the stepping stone, and 1C eventually ports over everything from GB into the Korea engine. It would make sense and they would basically have DCS -lite but from WWI to Korea, and expansions beyond.

The second concern is the really one in my mind; that Korea becomes a glorified tech-demo for 1C making a new WWII game based on the engine, and Korea becomes left behind. I just can’t see the average consumer on Steam buying into Korea, especially if 1C does what I think they are gonna do and try to get into Vietnam after this.

Long Branch No4 Mk1*

LGS find:

1943 Long Branch No4 MK1*. Bore is very nice and bright, all parts that should be Long Branch marked are, only real issue is that the rear aperture is snapped off, I have a spare micrometer sight I’m going to throw on. The guide rails for the bolt are not messed up (yet), bolt goes in true, no sticking in fast or slow. Also has some interesting markings; the serial on the front lower stock, and what looks like a rack number near the rear sling swivel. Overpayed a bit for it, but I like it.

Looks like a 1946 FTR, only thing that’s stumping me a bit is why it would have an England export marking but with evidence of it being a solely Long Branch refurbished rifle.

Three Gun Choices, I Only Want One

LGS has three rifles currently in stock that I am interested in:

  1. Amberg 1890 Commission rifle. No photos of this one unfortunately. When I saw it in person, it looked extremely new, not necessarily refinished. Bolt mismatch, but has German script, not Arabic. Small dent in upper shroud. Very expensive IMO
  2. Spandau 1890 Commission rifle. Photos are above, bolt does not match as well. However, it has cartouches in the stock and has more “character”. Price is ~$600.

Both of the Commission rifles are S marked, but appear to be the earlier G88S configuration. I can’t find any evidence of Turkish use.

  1. Smith Corona 1903A3. Has CMP paperwork form 2002 with it. Looks like a Greek return possibly, bolt is pencil serialed. Stock looks worse for wear, but I do have a spare FJA stock. Condition looks okay, but there are some grease spots that look concerning near the wood line. Price is $950.

I really would like a Commission rifle, but I also want a shooter 1903A3. Any thoughts on the condition and pricing of the rifles?

M95/30 Austrian Rework/Non-Bulgarian

Showing off my most recent milsurp, an Austrian re-work Budapest M95/30 with none of the usual markings on Bulgarian received rifles. All parts that should match do, bolt is unnumbered. Very crisp stock, bore was described to me as a 6/10, but appears to be very nice and bright. In addition, it has the somewhat hard to find front sight protector, as well as a unit marking showing it as the 223rd rifle of (most likely) the TirolJaeger Truppe, among the mountain warfare units that fought against Italy in the Alps, and the buttplate marking appears to be original to WWI.

P30L LEM Slight Issues

Shooting my P30L LEM. Got it a couple of months ago, second time I’ve been to range with it and I’m having two noticeable issues. So for one, I’m not sure if these would be solved with the break in period.

1st issue: Gun drops the slide 8/10 times when I put in a new loaded mag, without manipulating the slide release. I’ve read that this is considered a “feature” by some, and it doesn’t really concern me a whole lot. I just want to know if this is a common thing that’s going on. Once again, not a big problem.

2nd issue, and the actually “problematic” one: Out of ~20 mags of ammo, the gun is having failure to feeds on about half of those mags, specifically on the 9th round in the magazine (I’m using NJ 10-rnd cucked mags). I’m using a single mag, it was a new mag from HK direct at an LGS. I can replicate the problem. Never happens below the 9th round, and when it happens the slide doesn’t lock back like it’s empty, it sends the slide forward above the round and just fails to chamber it. I don’t know if this is a limp-wristing thing, or just a problem with my specific mag. Haven’t had the time to buy another mag.
