Local 1 NYC Applicants

Congrats to everyone who was able to get an application last month! As of a few minutes ago, the application submission deadline has officially passed. Hopefully everyone who intended to apply was able to get everything submitted on time.

The EIAT will take place in September. Anyone who passes the exam can expect interviews to be scheduled sometime between October and November.

Best of luck to everyone throughout the process, and have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!

Which is the better investment: PSA 10 Dodgers Luffy or Moonbreon?

I’m looking to buy one of these cards and hold it long term. Assuming both are PSA 10s, which would you choose as the better investment: the Dodgers Luffy or the Moonbreon, and why?

NYC Out of Work List

Hey everyone, this is my first time being on the out of work list, so I’m not really sure what to expect.

My current numbers on the list are:

Convention: 265
Weekday: 185
Weekend: 90
Javits: 65

For those of you who have been through this before, are these considered good or bad numbers? Roughly how long do you think I could be waiting before getting a call with numbers like these? I know it depends on how busy work is and the time of year, but I’m just trying to get a realistic idea of what to expect.

I’m a first year general carpenter with Local 157 and I have my certifications (OSHA, SST, F60, G60, E21, etc.), so there shouldn’t be any issues with qualifications holding me back from a dispatch.

Also, if anyone has recently been called from these lists, what number were you at and how long did it take?
Any insight from members who have worked off these lists would be appreciated. Thanks.

Switching NYC Carpenter Locals

Has anyone here ever switched unions within the NYC carpenters system? For example, moving from one of the general carpentry locals (like 157, 926, 45, or 20) over to a specialty local like the Timbermen/Scaffold Local 1556?

If you’ve done this, what was the process like? How did the transfer work out for you, and who did you have to speak with to make it happen?

10,000 Hours NYC

From what I understand, reaching Certified Journeyman (top pay) requires 10,000 hours of interior systems work in the NYC carpenters union.

Do apprenticeship hours count toward that 10,000-hour total?

For example, if someone completes apprenticeship with ~7,000 hours, would those hours carry over so they only need ~3,000 more hours as a journeyman (B-rate) to become certified?

Or does the 10,000-hour requirement start only after becoming a journeyman, meaning you’d need a full 10,000 hours at that level regardless of apprenticeship time?

Would appreciate insight from anyone who became a journeyman after Jan 2020 when the system changed.
