Seeking local 183 jobs/apprenticeships out of CCW level one, currently not a member
I’m about to complete CCW level one with 183 and will acquire all tickets provided with such on a competent worker card , i have almost perfect scores on written and in shop but they do not provide membership until you find a job afterwards unionized by 183 or other locals, i currently work at OPG darlington and obviously ideally i’d like to find a position there as i hold all clearances and qualifications needed to start work right away, but im not gonna nit pick just to stay at OPG, does anyone know of or have any advice for any other jobs under 183 that are currently seeking or i could apply to at this point i’d take any jobs at all to become a member as ill still hold my OPG qualifications and could most likely return through many contacts there. i’d most likely be able to get strong references from instructors and other union members and i have quite a bit of prior carpentry, construction and heavy machinery experience and knowledge, im a good worker never been late, maximum 8 sick days in the last 6 years, another reason i may seek work outside opg is i enjoy constant labour and gaining more knowledge and opg moves very slow, any suggestions, advice or possible interest would be much appreciated. phone or email can be provided if anyone would like to contact or provide contact.

A new one
So I got a new one for everyone. Contract States 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. anything before or after is overtime. Pay that one and a half times. Company saying no it's 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.. nowhere in any of the contracts has it said that and as far as I can see reading there is nothing in the contracts. No amendments or the likes of stating that the company can set their own overtime however, and whenever they feel like it.
Reached out to the business rep. No support. Anybody ever deal with something like this? How would you approach it?
Edit* to clarify. Straight time hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Anytime before 7:00 a.m. is overtime. Anytime after 7:00 p.m. is overtime. Saturdays are overtime. Sundays are overtime. 55 hours per week straight time. Anytime after 55 hours per week is overtime.
For Local 3 NJ, how long until I start working after the 2 week training?
I just got the call to do my drug test and starting my training next month. It’s two weeks unpaid which is fine just wondering if I should quit my current job before the training course starts. Best scenario would be I’ll work asap after training but does anyone know how long it’ll take to start my first job after the 80 hour Pre-apprenticeship training program?
Local 900 Liuna NB Canada
I've been in concrete for 5 years, worked my way up from laborer to foreman, interested in joining the Union here in NB canada, I have 10000 hours of concrete under my belt,
Anyone know what the union is like? Is it worth the trouble, I'm interested because of the mactaquac damn project approaching soon.
And want to work towards a retirement and stable wages/work
How Is work load for a mason tender? Do you stay pretty busy year round? I’m thinking about getting the mason tending cert and knocking on some doors. Iv been out of work for months. I’m getting desperate.

This is my first time being through a new contract. It was presented to us today, and I’m not thrilled. What’s a normal type of raise? We were behind the curve compared to other local unions, so the immediate bump is 7%, then between 3-4.5% a year over four years. If seems light to me, particularly since there wasnt any gain on insurance, and the company went up a little in matching our 401k. The raises don’t line up with current inflation numbers, or cost of living projections. Is this pretty normal? And it’s their first offer, I don’t expect a yes vote, but they are offering a $500 a person bonus if we pass it day one
Is joining the laborers union local 242 like working at a temp agency and is it consistent
Hey honest opinions only: I’ve only ever worked warehouse jobs since being released from prison but there’s no growth and $29hr ain’t cutting it but it’s consistent 🤷🏾♂️ Thinking about joining the local 242 union but don’t know what to expect. Can Any members of the union just give me advice or what to expect and is it consistent ? I heard you go bid for a job, they send you out and if that company likes you they keep you is that true ?
Testing
How does being on a perscription drug effect your job ? Started trainings and it popped on my screen but no one has called me to confirm my perscription or anything , we are supposed to start the job this week will they get rid of me for being on a perscription?
Help
$1,000 cash anyone who can get me into the union
With steady work, preferably heavy civil.
Will pay after I’m officially a union member and will sign a contract with you for assurance
It has to be better than this, right?
I know this isn't specific to LIUNA...but has anyone ever quit a job because the boss/owner of the company is an absolute piece of shit? The list of reasons why is longer than I care to type here. I'm really starting to question if I want to keep putting up with this shit every day......sorry for the rant, but I just need to get it out there
Local 220 bootcamp
Hey guys, making this post to help out my local 220 guys prepare for the bootcamp. I haven’t seen this info anywhere else so thought I’d share first you guys. The bootcamp is fucking HARD. For example, for us, we had 3 stations. One is sandbags, one is scaffolding planks, the last one cinder blocks. So, this is how it goes. For me, I started on the sand bag station. There are 5 bags, 95 lbs each. You have to carry said bags individually 50 feet away. Set them down, then carry them back to the original starting point. After that, you carry them 50 feet away again, then once again to the starting point. So, it’s a total of 4 times you have to carry the sand bags 50 feet away. You have 14 minutes to finish, if you don’t finish in time they mark off a point. 3 points and you’re out. Let’s say you finish the station early with 2 mins left. That means you have 2 minutes to rest. Then immediately back to the next station. Which for us was the cinder blocks. It’s 14, 40 lb cinder blocks that you have to carry two at a time 50 feet away. You then have to bring them back to the starting point as well. So a total of 28 cinder blocks you have to carry for 100 feet. You once again only have 14 minutes to complete this. Next, right after this is the scaffolding station. You have to carry 8, 50 lb wood scaffolding planks 50 feet away one by one. Once you’ve taken all 8 to the other side. You have to bring them back TWO at a time. This may not sound like a lot, but trust me, I didn’t think it was a lot either. Until I realized you do it, for 7 hours. You take two 15 min breaks, and a 30 mins lunch. But other than that? Practically 0 rest. Our class had 10 people, 8 quit. It’s fucking tough. If your bootcamp is soon, or you know you’re gonna be at it in 6 months. Prepare like your life depends on it. Nonstop gym, nonstop cardio. Make sure you strengthen your lower back, do deadlifts, farmers walks, and even try and simulate the bootcamp. Work on it little by little. Because, believe me. You won’t pass without the proper nutrition and training. This was also just day 2 by the way. Day 3 is the same thing all day with even more added on, and so is the 4th day. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
If you’re changing unions, does your annuity account with LiUNA roll over to the new union or can you put it into your own private IRA?

Hello my husband recently switched to local 300 and he is starting off as a journeyman… he has been on the list for about two weeks now and hasn’t heard back about jobs. Any tips or recommendations, he really needs a job.

Long story short, hydrovac swamper here, started at 6am this morning....still working, no breaks, no lunch...boss says that driving to and from the dump site counts as your breaks and lunch.....really close to walking off the job to be honest....oh and none of this is overtime eligible
