Yaar Jigre MOVIE— DISAPPOINTING
I watched this movie last weekend purely for the nostalgia and the memories this series has given me. Unfortunately, saying it underperformed would be an understatement. For a theatrical finale, it was deeply underwhelming.
Negatives
1. Jass’ treatment of Japneet was awful. Yes, she lies, but that doesn’t justify him constantly screaming at and humiliating her. His behaviour was excessive and uncomfortable to watch.
2. The actress’ confidence storyline felt incredibly juvenile. Watching a grown woman depend so heavily on Japneet’s validation felt more suited to a children’s cartoon than the theatrical conclusion of a major web series. It was difficult to understand why Japneet’s approval mattered so much to her.
3. Ekam facing no consequences was disappointing. He had wronged nearly every character, yet everyone simply forgave him and moved on. Considering his actions indirectly contributed to someone’s demise, that resolution felt absurd. I’m against violence, but narratively, he deserved at least one slap.
4. Daisy’s absence was never properly addressed. She was an important part of the series, especially in Anmol’s story, yet the movie treated her disappearance as though that entire storyline never mattered.
5. The comedy frequently misses. Ekam’s humour, in particular, becomes tedious at times rather than entertaining.
The pacing was inconsistent. Some developments felt rushed, while others dragged unnecessarily.
Positives
1 Laali’s redemption felt deserved and satisfying. It was one of the few conclusions that genuinely felt right.
2. Anmol and Simran’s developing relationship was refreshing. Although slightly forced, it brought some much needed warmth to the movie.
3. The acknowledgment of casteism was appreciated. It gave the story some meaningful social relevance.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, I wouldn’t call it a great movie. I wouldn’t even call it a good one. Perhaps the audience has simply outgrown the story and its style of storytelling. The nostalgia remains, but unfortunately, the movie itself doesn’t live up to it.
