A Little Bit Annoyed with The Air 4 Elements Finale
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
So Blew gives up her royal title to be with Wayo and it kind of infuriates me.
For me this is yet another series where a female character has a specific goal she's essentially been working her whole life for and then just gives it up entirely to pursue a romance with someone she barely knows. In other word's woman's ambition is ultimately subordinated to her personal relationship, while a man inherits the highest office. The fact that she and Wayo have been through so much together is actually a point against the relationship to me. Going through intense things together will lead to intense feelings. Even though there have been scenes where she's mentioned enjoying living like a normal person it felt more "heavy is the head that wears the crown" than a genuine desire to relinquish it. And can you imagine if this was real life and you give up your throne for someone then get divorced?!!
I get that they were trying to tell a story of sacrificing for someone you care for but imo they undermined it by having Blew constantly communicate to the audience that she was frequently thinking about Madelin and getting back to her people to look after them. Would have preferred her ending where she keeps bot the title and the girl. Anyway, get you a girl who can give up a crown for you.
EDIT: In response to some of the replies, yes the show mentions that her title was something she didnt choose but imo it was never handled as something she genuinely resented or wanted to throw away. In the scenes where we see her acting as a royal, she generally seems to take the responsibility seriously and as something important to her. There were scenes that showed her enjoying commoner life but to me, they never read as a genuine desire to give up her responsibilities but rather as "isn't it nice to take a break from royal life from time to time." She constantly speaks of going back to Madelin to look after her people.
But in any case, it isn't the smartest decision to throw away your entire life for someone you barely know and have never so much as even dated. Lom and Blew have not spent much time learning who the other is outside the context of being in danger which in and of itself could lead to intense feelings. I can't help but inject realism into watching these shows and in the long run if this were real life, it would lead to resentment e.g "I gave up my title and my whole life for someone who doesn't even do the dishes" (doing the dishes is just a metaphor for whatever conflict they have once they settle into domestic life once the novelty of being newly weds wears off.) I'm also not of the opinion that a romantic relationship, even a good one, automatically leads to happiness. Her choice is a risk that may or may not pay off and she's given up the life she once knew and put her existing relationships with family at jeopardy.
Some people mentioned that she regains her title in the novel and that redeems the ending somewhat to me. But at the end of the day, that's the novel not the series.
Also, y'all, it's just an opinion!
