What do you guys think is the best detachment/combo for an infantry focused guard army right now? I know most of our meta lists appear to be vehicle focused but I want to give my infantry a go again.

I have tried recon but playing into an army that ignores or can strip cover (or just melee) hasn’t felt good. Not to mention the nerf to the tanglefoot grenades Strat.

Siege + designation has a better reactive move than recon, increased detection, cover stripping, stealth (handy if enemy can’t ignore cover) but most of the Strats are limited to platoon so you can’t use them on stuff like Kasrkin.

Combined is one that has caught my eye, when I tried the recon detachment into blood angels I felt bogged down as I struggled to shoot his first wave of units down with mostly las guns. Lethal could help clear enough forward units to then sit on the objectives. Also has awesome Strats like reinforcements, fields of fire and order swapping. I guess into monster/vehicle skew lists you won’t have a detachment rule.

In preparation of collecting all the new models today I decided to paint and build lots of my backlog in order to not increase my pile of shame today. Really happy what I managed to complete. Been using these to try out recon and the new armoured infantry detachment.

2 hellhound flamer tanks
1 chimera
1 sentinel
50 guardsman
5 Ratlings
1 Primaris Psyker/navigator
And the OG model for Commissar Yarrick
