Blackstones Never Die

Earlier today I saw yet another post about a Blackstone with some rust that a redditor was asking if it could be salvaged. I echo the sentiments of most every Blackstone owner here that they are virtually indestructible, but I thought maybe showing a couple pics of my last journey might help.

About 6 months ago I was walking the dog through the neighborhood and I saw someone had thrown out their Blackstone and it was on the curb for bulk trash the next day.

I went home, got my truck and went over and picked it up. This is purely steel wool pads, an orbital sander with 60 grit paper and a lot of elbow grease. I did have to buy a $20 igniter kit from Amazon but oh well.

Let’s do it guys! In a world of single-serving, throwaway bullshit, get your nuts out and save something. This is not a brag post, I don’t give a shit. I just want us to be men again.

Where to buy pro tools

I recently had a sprinklerhead become very loose and when I fidgeted with it, it detached. It came out with some of the riser attached.

My thought was, “No problem, I’ll remove the piece of the riser from the head and remove the rest from the elbow coupling and just replace the riser.” Well the riser sheared off flush with the coupling.

At first I didn’t know what to do. After thinking about it for a bit, I went and got an old serrated knife from my kitchen and made two notches on the inside of the riser. Then I took an oyster shucker and wedged it into the notches and twisted it out.

I was pretty happy to find a solution, but it got me thinking that a pro irrigation company must have some specialized tool for this and probably for other frustrating repairs.

Can someone recommend a website or chain of stores where I can buy these “secret” yard irrigation gems?

External cleaning?

I feel like I’m on my way to getting the griddle itself looking good, but I wanted to ask the group what was the best way to clean/care for all of the external areas? The Blackstone I’m fixing was left outside and in not great shape so just wondering what tips might be out there to make it look new again.

Property taxes question

The companies that contest property taxes in Dallas advertise a seemingly high level of failure for individuals attempting to fight them on your own. Is that true or just a fearmongering tactic to sell their services?
