ELI5 How can we know Homo sapiens are the only ones left?

I just read about the link between Dragon Man and Denisovans. How do we know Homo sapiens are the only subspecies to exist? People are so vastly different from the short and stocky Aztec and Mayan to the incredibly tall and lanky South Sudanese. How do we know we aren’t all different subspecies? I understand evolutionary biology and why we all look different, but I don’t understand why we believe no other sub species exists.

White Spiky critter??

EDIT**** bug friend said it’s a Scymninae Lady Beetle larva. It’s NOT safe to put in our tanks. It’s a predator.

I found this guy after harvesting for moss outside my apartment. What is it??

The heck are these???

This is in my newly established tank. What the heck are these guys and are they safe or do I need to start over? They are also darker. The last picture has a pink arrow pointing it. It’s the only one I could get a clear enough picture of with my unsteady hands.

Edit****

Are they soil mites?

Soaking Hog?

I’ve had The Hogman for close to a year now. The last few days, he’s taken to soaking in his water dish. I know that snake’s will do this if they need help shedding, but he shed a week or two ago already. We have been bonding since he got sick in March. I know that soaking is normal behavior for ball pythons but I haven’t heard of it in hoggies.

Is this something I should be concerned about and keep watch or is this a positive consequence to his feeling safer around me and therefore safe enough to openly soak?

Converting from sliding doors to opening?

I bought this homemade corner tank. I don’t remember the dimensions but it’s the same square footage as a 4x2x2. It is the home of my sub adult ball python, Squid.

I want to convert the doors from sliding to open but I’m not very knowledgeable about woodworking aside from some very novice stuff that allowed me to know what I need to do and/or look up, to complete the conversion to hold a tropical climate animal versus arid.

Anyway, long story short, my more knowledgeable friend bailed on me super last minute. I have zero patience when it comes to doing things I’m super excited about and I already waited 2 whole weeks for him to be ready for him to ditch me as I was on my way to him…

This has now been up a week and I hate the horrible plexiglass scratches and I don’t like how Squids body reacts when I slide open the door to do some maintenance.

So how can I convert these to doors using minimal resources and tools? The only saw I have is a hand saw that I used to cut the supporting rod in the middle.

Bird rescue?

My neighbors parakeets had babies and one of them has swimmers syndrome. I am not having luck finding a local-ish rescue that can take him in. I have called WildCare but they didn’t know of any place I could take him to. While I follow a lot of bird pages on social media, I only know enough to know that this needs to be addressed quickly. I’m worried he’s too old for rehab. I would know what to do with a dog or cat, but birds are different.

Does anyone know where I can take him to get the care he needs??

Accommodations for 72hr EEG??

I have to have a 72hr EEG and the thought of all the electrodes being glued to my scalp for the entire time sounds like a fucking nightmare. I tolerated the routine well enough not knowing what to expect. But this time? Hell no. But I have to have it.

I had a very bad autistic day despite having a good day overall. However, learning that I will be attached to TWENTY-ONE electrodes for SEVETY-FOUR hours was enough to send me over today. I don’t know what accommodations to ask for or if there even any I can ask for.

The first is of her clutch, the second of her as a hatchling just before I took her. The rest are from last week and today. I was told Sigrid was Normal Het for Pied.

She has been displaying signs of Wobble. When I talked to the person I got her from, they said she may have Hidden Gene Woma.

I’m trying to educate myself more about Wobble and it appears that Siggi’s is mild. I’ve tried looking at Morph Market to ID myself but I’m not sure? I see some traits that look like HGW but in my ignorance, could miss the others she looks like.

One of her clutch mates passed at a few months old. They were hatched 6/30/2025 and to my knowledge, only one has passed.
