Kemutai Hanashi
This manga is such a sweet slice-of-life story that focuses on the daily lives of two men who decides to live together after taking care of a cat together, even tho neither of them are a big fan of cats or pets in general, and they want to be around each other for a long time, however they're struggling to find the right word for what kind of relationship they have; they know it's not romantic, yet they know it's also not friendship, the title "a smoky story" fits their relationship perfectly
The story shows their mundane daily life while also showing their struggles to find the right way to describe what they have, how others see them and how it affects them, because when your relationship is something between a romantic relationship and friendship, there isn't necessarily a name for it known by the common folk, and people struggle to grasp the ideas they're not familiar with
I've seen a lot of confused people who treated this manga as "just two pals living together", "bros the manga", "bachelor buddies moving in together" etc etc but it throws away the WHOLE TOPIC of this manga! Even in the first volume's first few episodes they talk about it not just being friendship (as you can see in the pics 2-7)
I've also seen some bl fans not understanding why they don't just start dating, and I won't give spoilers but this is explained in the 6th volume (episode 32 especially focuses on this), while I like bl myself I think this story not being bl is the main point and should stay that way (also a fun fact: they're often confused to be a gay couple in the story, so each time someone assumes this manga is bl it's a lore accurate occurrence)
From what I've seen in the (barely existing) fandom, the story especially resonates with aromantic/ asexual-spectrum people, as the main characters' relationship is extremely similar to a queer-platonic relationship and one of the main characters shows signs of being on the a-spec (maybe even being aroace), however I'd recommend this to anyone who'd love to see a deep platonic connection between two people without the genre turning into romance, even tho I love romance myself a story like this also makes me smile and warms my heart
