Medieval fantasy genre and Gothic artstyle manga

Looking for manga with a very specific visual atmosphere and I’m struggling to find more of it. The setting doesn’t necessarily have to be medieval, but I really adore that gothic, romantic, theatrical, slightly eerie aesthetic.

Some manga/manhwa examples: Requiem of the Rose King, Dear, My God, Black Butler, Moriarty the Patriot, Romeo x Juliet, Ennead, King's Maker

What I’m especially looking for is atmosphere + art direction, rather than necessarily a similar plot.

Some movie examples with the kind of visual atmosphere and plotting:

The Green Knight (2021), The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999), Ruslan and Ludmila (1972), Donkey Skin (1970), Romeo and Juliet (1968), White Nights (1960), Cinderella (1997), Phantom Thread (2017), The Favourite (2018), Jane Eyre (2011)

It doesn’t have to be strictly gothic or strictly medieval. I’m mainly looking for that particular dark, atmospheric, European fairy-tale / historical painting kind of aesthetic. Even religious stuff and motifs are fine with me

(Edit: more info)

Manga recs

I haven’t read much manga but my favorites are chainsaw man and bleach. I like darker themes and cool power systems. I’m open to pretty much anything and don’t mind if it’s a little weird.

Manwha/Manga/Manhua reccomendations

I’ve just finished up with Hero Killer and Hand Jumper

I also read I shall survive using potions and saving 80,000 gold for retirement

I’m desperately looking for either genre types for me to read, but I prefer absolutely zero romance as I read about 200 romance options in a row and god absolutely sick of it for the time being!

I’ve read about 1000 manga/manwha/manhua so chances are some duplicates will occur but please offer me some of your favourites and hidden gems especially will a female main character with zero romance sub plots or main plot

Kemutai Hanashi

This manga is such a sweet slice-of-life story that focuses on the daily lives of two men who decides to live together after taking care of a cat together, even tho neither of them are a big fan of cats or pets in general, and they want to be around each other for a long time, however they're struggling to find the right word for what kind of relationship they have; they know it's not romantic, yet they know it's also not friendship, the title "a smoky story" fits their relationship perfectly

The story shows their mundane daily life while also showing their struggles to find the right way to describe what they have, how others see them and how it affects them, because when your relationship is something between a romantic relationship and friendship, there isn't necessarily a name for it known by the common folk, and people struggle to grasp the ideas they're not familiar with

I've seen a lot of confused people who treated this manga as "just two pals living together", "bros the manga", "bachelor buddies moving in together" etc etc but it throws away the WHOLE TOPIC of this manga! Even in the first volume's first few episodes they talk about it not just being friendship (as you can see in the pics 2-7)

I've also seen some bl fans not understanding why they don't just start dating, and I won't give spoilers but this is explained in the 6th volume (episode 32 especially focuses on this), while I like bl myself I think this story not being bl is the main point and should stay that way (also a fun fact: they're often confused to be a gay couple in the story, so each time someone assumes this manga is bl it's a lore accurate occurrence)

From what I've seen in the (barely existing) fandom, the story especially resonates with aromantic/ asexual-spectrum people, as the main characters' relationship is extremely similar to a queer-platonic relationship and one of the main characters shows signs of being on the a-spec (maybe even being aroace), however I'd recommend this to anyone who'd love to see a deep platonic connection between two people without the genre turning into romance, even tho I love romance myself a story like this also makes me smile and warms my heart

You can read it on mangadex

[Strange Pictures]

Story by Uketsue, Manga by Kikou Aiba.

Just finished reading the first volume of this manga adaptation of the novel Strange Pictures.

I'd recommend it for anyone looking for an unusual mystery manga with a hint of horror.

Mangas with innuendos or suggestiveness?

I have a bit of a list of mangas that have slight sexual/suggestive jokes or themes and I really want to find more! There's no downright 'showing' or anything, mostly just fade to black hehe. It can be about adults or teens, as long as its relatively SFW! (I'm fine with manwhas too, and ik im not really sure if any of these classifies as 'shoujo'; its just easier to group them together as such.)

Here is my list:

Kiyoku, Yamashiku, Modokashiku. (pervert mc, also glasses mc!)

Horimiya (self explanatory)

Namaikizakari

Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru

Hayaku Shitai Futari (glasses mc x2! Don't read if you get annoyed easily, there's a lot of annoying plots here.)

Kaguya-sama/Love is war (fade to black and a few jokes here and there)

Ichijou Karen wa Yuuwakusuru (childhood friends to lovers!)

Lovesick ellie (I ADORE this, 10/10 I love our fl)

Neko to kiss (I've dropped this one, but you might like it.)

Can I Kiss You Every Day?(childhood friends to lovers x2!)

You Got Me, Sempai! (heightgap, artstyle is okay, fluffy and very suggestive 7.9/10)

Mousou Telepathy (mind-reader girl)

Aishiteru Game wo Owarasetai (the newest chapters tackles 'that')

The Person Sitting Next To Me Looking At Me With Perverted Eyes (honestly this ones leaning to ecchi lol)

Any suggestions?

Suggest a manga for my wife (31) to read

I've got one shot at this guy's, I mostly read battle manga so I'm here looking for suggestions. My wife likes rom-coms, dramas, thrillers but mostly sticks to tv shows. I need something with a badass chick in it, I guess it can have battles but I doubt she'll enjoy it if fighting is the focus atleast for the start of the manga anyway. Mainstream would be preferred just to increase her chances of liking it.

Looking for Romance Manga that is 18+.

A few years a go a read the Manga "Sweat and Soap" and it was just perfect in every aspect.

Now im searching for something in the same "Gerne".

I dont like those High-School Romance, Teenagers crying over everything anymore.

It does not need to have 18+/nsfw content but if it had it would be well received.

Kyosuke’s escapades really crack me up: Manga is called “Waiting for Spring”

His unmatched rizz scaring the other three will never not make me cackle. He’s the only one with a clue when it comes to women and he absolutely won’t help the others in any way. Lol 😂 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Short (low volume count) manga recommendations?

I want to read more manga but the trouble is that a lot of them are over ten volumes and I only have so much space and money.

I’m open to any tropes really, but bonus if it’s queer. Ideally, it would be 7 volumes or less.

It would be cool if it was a sci-fi but I can try any genre.

EDIT: Historical drama is good too!

zero ball and need a suggestion

Hello everybody! I’ve recently gotten into manga/anime culture, watching anime like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, JJK, and Gachiakuta (recommended by friends), and I’d like to start reading some manga as well. The problem? I have zero ball knowledge, and I’ve decided that I want to read something niche to surprise my friends.
As for my interests: I’m a TTRPG player (D&D/PF2e), I’ve played video games like Hollow Knight and Undertale, and I’d rather avoid sports manga. I’d love something with an interesting power system, but the manga doesn’t necessarily have to revolve entirely around fighting. I’m also really into gritty art styles (I’ve been told that “gritty” is the right term for the kind of art I’m looking for).

P.S. It would be cool if it had a schizophrenic/psychedelic vibe.
