We just celebrated out 19th anniversary last week
I tried to explain this with just text but thought a video would help. I do a slight hop from a forward extended position. Find the stability in your shoulder while in this position and try hopping up slightly…all the best to you. You already have the strength and flexibility.. you need technique.
how much of your flexibility can you actually use? this largely depends on your compression strength. My passive range is quite high (pic 1). Chest to thighs and chin past my knees. This is the range I can access. My active flexibility (pic 2) while still quite high, is not as developed. In an active pose, this is the range I can use. Hip Flexors will ultimately determine your usable flexibility. Spending hours in a folded pike will give you the range but not the strength to actively use that range. Hip flexor strength training when paired with hamstring flexibility turns the range you have into range you can use.
First time posting here. I’ve never felt I had much to contribute, far more to learn.
My goal was never flexibility but a high V-sit and Flexibility is a necessary part of that.
The best advice I have received on this sub and still practice:
Achieving a high Vsit has taken me approximately 2 years. I am 54 years old.
A few week’s ago I posted what I thought was one of my best Vsit holds and you guys absolute filled me with confidence. This has taken me one year longer than I had planned but I’m now starting to hit this at will and it feels amazing. It’s a rather niche sport, Calisthenics is but its practitioners in this sub have dispelled many personal doubts I’ve had about myself..you guys are such fantastic athletes and I thank you all for the push forward. I’m very proud of this pic.
Birthday was yesterday and my wife bought me these shorts. Primary calisthenics and bodyweight work. Strong emphasis on Gymnastic rings and Parallel bars. My rotator cuffs were health in my youth…..
I’ve been at this skill for 1.5 years.. finally hitting my stride
