Mani Ratnam's Alaipayuthey isn't just a romantic drama-it's a cinematic masterpiece that changed how Indian cinema talked about love after marriage. Instead of grand gestures, the film leans into silences, conflicts, and emotional distance, turning everyday domestic life into sharp film analysis. Madhavan and Shalini's chemistry feels organic, making the story resonate as a lived-in portrait of love rather than a fantasy. This was auteur cinema at its most intimate, grounded, and emotionally precise.
An interesting fact many cinephiles love: Alaipayuthey was officially remade in Bollywood as Saathiya (2002), directed once again by Mani Ratnam himself. Rather than selling the rights away, Ratnam reinterpreted his own cult classic for a Hindi-speaking audience, casting Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji, with A.R. Rahman returning to deliver another iconic soundtrack. While Saathiya found massive mainstream success.

Humari Adhuri kahani(2015): To capture the heavy heartbreak of the movie, Mohit Suri frequently blasted tracks like Humnava and Hasi through the speakers during lighting and shot setups. Heading to Imphal for an exam in mid-November seeking advice on travel safety, logistics, and local tips
Hey everyone,
I’m travelling to Manipur in mid-November for an official exam. I’ll be based around Imphal for a couple of days and wanted to ask the community for some local insights and advice to make sure everything goes smoothly.
A few specific questions I have:
Safety & Current Ground Situation: What is the general ground situation in and around Imphal right now? Are there specific precautions I should keep in mind as a student visiting for an exam?
Local Transport & Getting Around: How easy is it to get reliable auto/cab services from the airport to the city, and from hotels to exam centers on time? Any specific apps or local cab contacts recommended?
Inner Line Permit (ILP): Is it best to get the ILP online in advance, or is the counter at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport quick and reliable for arrival?
Things to Do / Sightseeing: If I have half a day or a day post-exam, what are the best local spots to visit around Imphal? (I’d love to try local dishes like Eromba or Singju, and maybe check out Ima Keithel or Loktak Lake if time permits!)
Any general advice regarding evening curfews/restrictions, internet/connectivity, or local etiquettes would be super helpful.
Thanks in advance for your help and hospitality!
