Severe anxiety towards sign-offs. Any tips? :(

I think that is the main reason as to why I hate clinical placements. I always feel being in the way. Sometimes I am very proactive but I heavily depend on whoever is there that is keen to sign me and often I end up leaving placement very late because everyone tells me to wait for hours.

What can I do to stop having severe anxiety towards this? I am very respectful but I always feel in the way to a point that I can get panic attacks. It may be stupid but being in such a central hospital makes it really hard. I am based in London and I have O&G.

Neighbour refuses to change fire alarm battery and is bleeping every 30 seconds for weeks now.

I called 101 today and reported it but not sure how long till I will eventually get someone to come?

I also reported it today to the council but I am waiting to hear from them.

Is driving everyone insane. How is even possible for someone to live in that noise?

The beep is 24 hours out of 24 hours and is every minute.

For those finishing FY2 and having to choose specialty how are y'all feeling?

I ask because competition has been a real struggle and is heart breaking that unlike other countries we have to do a lot more to be able to even be considered. I hope with the allocation for UK graduates it will calm a bit.

What are the most interesting or weird places you done your Anki?

With summer holidays I will say most interesting ones have been plane and boat.

I believe we all did our reviews in the bathroom to pass time.

Reminder that not adding new cards in your deck for a month can be very healthy for your deck load.

I finished a very demanding year and my reviews went up by a lot. I decided to use the summer break to slow down my workload. It worked very well. If you feel like burning out taking a break is not a bad thing is healthy for both you and your deck.

Question about reviewing ahead

Hey everyone, super quick question about "reviewing ahead". Planning to review some of tomorrows cards. If I make a custom deck and I do them in the custom deck.

  1. Will the main deck get updated without messing FSRS?

  2. If I delete the custom deck will it delete my cards?

Thank you!

Any cool tips and tricks for Anki?

Been using Anki every day for one year now, is great I have some nice adds-on.

I have not played much with the custom deck or FSRS either aside from of course doing the monthly update of my cards.

I want to learn more about it. I am bad with reading instructions but any super good tutorials that explain about study custom and FSRS helper? I heard great things about it but been too scared to use it as I do not want to mess my cards.

Peace and that this a reminder to do your reviews today!

How to raise this up? Council?

Is been a couple of days that this beep sound comes up with an interval of 30 to 40 seconds. Is that type of beep sound that smoke alarms make when on low battery.

I cannot figure out where is it coming from. I hear it best when for example I am sitting in the back garden and even windows closed. Is only the back of the house not front so it must be my neighbours? I do not know if smoke alarms can be that loud but is also true that with the heat everyone is keeping the windows open?

Should I raise it to the council so that they can invrstigate it?

In-depth 1 year Anki analysis: What I learned but also asking for advice.

Happy 1 year to me! I cannot believe I am posting this. Been dreaming of it for a really long time. For background I am a medical student using Anki for UK medical school. Fun fact I did not like anki and never used it until I forced myself to learn how to use it properly. Still learning a lot from this great community.

Anki had really changed the way I study is been super useful and I am happy I sticked to it. At the moment I am not adding new cards as I want the reviews to lower as I had a spike because I had exams.

My key points:

  1. I always did all cards until I had 0 new, learn or due. Some days I hated it but I knew I would have hated it more if I did not do my reviews.
  2. Some days like now that I am on holiday I still do my anki cards but I feel is a waste of time. I know that is not true and that I will thank myself later on.
  3. Doing them first thing in the morning helps me a lot more than doing them in the afternoon. If I do that it takes me ages.
  4. It saved me an insane amount of time and I can do it anywhere.

My question:

I still have 5,000 new anki cards to add in in the next year. My worry is that I will have too many reviews a day. At the moment I am not adding new cards for another month so I hope that it will go down to 250. I do not want to suspend the 7,000 cards I have covered this year as I need this content to pass my exams. Those that are in my similar position what would you do?

My DR is 90%.

Do we have an NHS email as students?

I know we have access to TRAK as we are on placements. Does that mean we have an NHS email? I got asked today as university email and personal email cannot be used.

Anyone knows how to access this? What would the password be whether is same as TRAK? Note that this is for Scotland.

Exam result will NEVER define your worth.

Hey all, I want to share something with you all just in case anyone might have forgot. Grades do not… NOT define you. Is just scores and being a good clinician does not mean having high grades.

Remember who you are, take a walk and please take care of your MENTAL HEALTH. I am guilty of it. I burn out really badly and paying the consequences. Go touch grass. Literally go outside and touch grass. BREATHE… we are doing such a hard degree is ridiculous. Yeah, is hard.

I also want to say to those that have no family background of healthcare be proud. Trying to figure out everything with no help is hard. To those that feel behind you are not behind you are exactly where you are do not bother about those that have publications and all that. Be you and do you. Be true to yourself and do not loose yourself in the process.

This is also a reminder for myself. I come from nothing and seeing where I am does make me want to cry. We all have our own fights so please be kind in a system collapsing. Take care you reading this message and drink water also sleep.

What would work best and why?

Hi everyone! I’ve been using Anki consistently all through year 4 of medical school. Now I’m heading into year 5. In year 6, my big exam will cover both year 4 and 5 content.

My question is as I move through year 5, should I continue reviewing all my year 4 cards or prioritise year 5? I want to avoid a backlog especially considering I will need that content in year 6 anyway. What would it be best to do? I am based in the UK. At the moment I am seeing 345 cards but it should go down to 290 before I start year 5.

What is this low pitched frequency noise? Is happening almost every today!

Today it started soo early in the morning it woke me up. Is soo annoying and is constant is a low frequency and sometimes it stops. Is been months is making me go insane.

Is in Liberton/Royal Infirmary but OH MY I cannot anymore. I have an audio that I added in the comments section you can hear it get louder to the end. Reddit deleted it. I am happy to DM this.

Edit: I know Liberton High School is under construction but the external site has been finalised so it cannot be that.

Anyone ever been like this? How did you snap out of it?

Finished my first clinical year and the course has been super long. I feel soo drained that in the last few days I slept 10+ hours which I find ridiculous. I find hard to anything that involves being out the house as all I want to do is be in bed and scroll on my phone.

I am literally forcing myself to go to the gym but I have no energy in my body. I try to do something for myself as I feel guilty to have my whole summer doing absolutely nothing but I am feeling drained. Anyone been like this? When will it get better? I am not depressed I am just exhausted and drained perhaps burn out would be a better word for it.
