Did I cheat in my exams?

Long story short. Back in 2006, age 11, I was told my exams were done and I didn't need to turn up for school. My mum made me turn up anyway because I was too young to stay home. When I turned up, my teacher scolded me; telling me my exams were done. Everyone else in my year group has exams that day except me. The teacher then took everyone including me to the exam room and sat down at the allocated desk with exams on the table. I was the only child who did not have a table, so I asked the invigilator where my desk was. She took my name and scanned the list and found no name of mine. I told the teacher, he said "well I'm not surprised." He took me into the IT room on my own. Five minutes later he came in with an envelope with a spare exam paper in his hands, then said "I've just checked my desk and found a spare one. I don't know who it belongs to. Must be a student who didn't show up." At this point I was convinced I was doing a mock exam because, one: they would let me do someone else's exam; two: so I had something to do when everyone else was taking their exams, and three: why was it on his desk?

Fast forward. Halfway through the exam I ask the invigilator (different woman) "I wonder who the exam belongs to?". She panicked and asked my name to check it was me. At first I didn't understand why she would ask that. My teacher who handed me the exam paper was asked to come in and confirm it was me. He then said "yes". He left and I carried on the exam. Then I got stuck on the question. Since I was convinced it was a mock and not a real exam paper; I asked the invigilator how I would solve this problem. She told me "no, it would be cheating." I then said "it's not like a real exam that affects my life." A moment of pause then I looked at her and asked "is this real?" She then confirmed it was real. I panicked and explained to her that I didn't know it was real, my teacher told me not to turn up that day because my exams were finished. I was at one point thinking I was taking someone else's exam. The paper was on his desk. The previous invigilator in the exam room told me I wasn't on the list.

I got my results a couple of months later and had a score of 130. I told my friends what happened as well as teachers and they all insisted I cheated in the exam because I asked the invigilator how to solve a problem.

Did I cheat? There never was an investigation because the school doesn't want one and I have friends who told me I cheated and I should be disqualified.
