I take most of it back….
I’ve been critical of Le Bernardin in the past, my last experience was very disappointing (rushed, over cooked main course fish for all 4 of us , cold service), but I had lunch there today and the food was bordering on divine.
I started with the tartare of gamberini rossi. The shrimp was pristine, so sweet it was almost like a dessert from the ocean.
Then the scallop and uni dish. That was like a record scratch for the whole table. The 3 of us agreed it was one of the most amazing dishes we’d ever had, and we’re effing picky!
I then had the merluza (hake) in lobster gumbo sauce. The sauce was thin for a gumbo, could have used a bit more reduction, but the flavors were definitely Louisiana inspired, it smelled like New Orleans kitchen. And the fish itself was cooked perfectly. My lunch mates had the diver sole, and that soy-brown butter sauce was everything I’d ever want on sole. Superb.
So I take most of it back, except that someone at the table ordered the tuna on foie gras dish that find so bland and so over hyped. I don’t want to be stubborn, so I had a big bite of it. Guess what? Still soooo disappointing. Definitely my least favorite bite of an otherwise gorgeous meal.
The 3 course for lunch cost more than I remember, it was $139. And we added an extra course. But this time, it all felt worth it :)
