UK expat (37M) travelling in December, planning to settle in Chiang Mai in January - advice?
I’m a 37 year old guy from the UK. I’m heading to Thailand in December for about four weeks of travelling, and after that I’m planning to settle in Chiang Mai in January on the DTV visa. I’ve been to Thailand before but never Chiang Mai. I’ve heard it’s a solid hub for digital workers and remote professionals, so that’s where I’ll set up first but I’m open to moving elsewhere in Thailand later if it doesn’t feel right long term. Once I’m settled, I’ll mainly be focusing on investing/day trading, so I’m hoping CM has a community of people who aren’t just backpacking for a week. One thing I’m unsure about is the burning season. For anyone who’s lived in the north: is the smog actually manageable, or is it bad enough that I should plan to stay somewhere else in Thailand during those months? Any general advice from people who’ve done long term living in Thailand would be appreciated, especially around choosing Chiang Mai as a base.
