Animalistic behaviors that you’ve noticed in humans?

I know that the title is a bit broad but I saw some people online talking about how a lot of behavior we display is very alike to animals. I saw someone mention about how when we’re alone in our homes and hear an unfamiliar noise we immediately freeze and slowly look around like a prey animal would in the wild or how children and vulnerable parties are often protected or taken care of first in signs of danger or disaster.

It struck me as extremely interesting. I think the study of human behavior in relation to animals is EXTREMELY interesting at the least and humbling at the most.

I’d love to hear about other similarities you have observed as well as if you could point me in the direction of where I could go to learn more about the specific subject! Thank you. :)

Human behaviors that are similar to animals/animalistic

I know that the title is a bit broad but I saw some people online talking about how a lot of behavior we display is very alike to animals. I saw someone mention about how when we’re alone in our homes and hear an unfamiliar noise we immediately freeze and slowly look around like a prey animal would in the wild or how children and vulnerable parties are often protected or taken care of first in signs of danger or disaster.

It struck me as extremely interesting but I do wanna say that I’m not sure if it’s exactly related to anthropology. I’m not very educated on anthropology, not as much as I’d like to be at least, but I think the study of human behavior in relation to animals is EXTREMELY interesting at the least and humbling at the most.

I’d love to hear about other similarities you have observed as well as if you could point me in the direction of where I could go to learn more about the specific subject! Thank you. :)

My Depop feed has become the 10th crusade

I recently redownloaded the app and have found that I am getting recommended an unbelievable amount of religious wear. I’ve been trying to weed it out by interacting with literally anything that isn’t related to god or jesus but it doesn’t affect it at all. Not sure if it’s just a weird bug or a sign from the great beyond. Would appreciate some help on how to unjesus my feed!

advice for a new analog horror “no creator” and questions

In advance, I don’t really use Reddit so bear with me.

I’ve always had a long time surface interest in analog horror and have spent the last few days really diving into it and started a personal project that’s really just for my friends and I, given the analog horror “creator” in the title. I’m a writer and I’ve always wanted to find more mediums to tell my stories in other than just words on a page and I think analog horror could be a really interesting outlet.

My story follows a young man living in Chicago who suffers from schizophrenia in the 90s forward. He grew up in a pretty miserable home with his younger brother who overdosed at the end of 1999 and following his death he has an episode in which he believes his brother is coming back from the dead to punish him for not saving him from his addictions. Fun stuff, right?

I took a clip from a broadcast of the news in Chicago on January 2, 2000 where they’re covering the travel rush after new years and cut it where the newscaster conveniently says “Tomorrow it’s back to reality, whether they like it or not.” After that the feed distorts and cuts to a blue blank broadcast that recounts the amount of time since his brother had passed and reminds him that his doctor had told him to stop his compulsive habit of counting and logging the time since in grief.

That’s really most of what I have put together right now in CapCut (I know there’s definitely better software I could be using but I love CapCut and will not be moved from it.) The story is one I’ve been working on since 2024 and it’s near and dear to my heart so I’d love to get feedback on that too if anything.

I’m struggling to find actual clips that I could put into the video, something with a found footage sort of vibe. I have a specific video that I’d want of someone trudging through the snow with the camera just loosely recording but I look on YouTube and other platforms and I just find ambient sort of content. I’m not sure if I could find videos like that in some place or if there’s a specific way to look for them or if (like I’ve seen for a lot of analog horrors) most videos in content are filmed by the creators themselves. As much as I’d like to do that I live in California and it’s 90 degrees for the foreseeable future.

I’ll probably post again with more questions as I work on this but thanks in advance and also please be kind as I’m not very cultured on all of it yet! :)

I’m worried about the future of me (20M) and my girlfriend’s (20F) relationship because of her ‘close’ relationship with her brother.

My girlfriend (20f) and I (20m) have been dating for two years as of January after we met at our college orientation. She’s the love of my life and I genuinely want to spend the rest of my time with her but since I met her family (more specifically her brother), I just have an off feeling and I don’t know if I’m just crazy and grasping at straws or not.

Molly’s (not her real name!!) family is really great and her parents have really taken to me and I’ve always felt really welcome at their home since I met them for the holidays last year. She has three younger brothers, O (18), R (17), and M (15). I met them for Christmas and they were all super nice and we had such a fun time but I felt like O was just a bit clingy with her. It feels weird to say and I think it could’ve just been that she was visiting after one of her first years of college but it still just stuck out to me. It wasn’t anything crazy but if we were standing somewhere and I’d step away to go to the bathroom or maybe to grab a drink or something he’d almost immediately stand where I was and lean against her or put his arm around her.

I don’t wanna sound like some crazy jealous boyfriend but it just gave me off vibes every time I saw it and I’m not really one to get jealous in general either. The next morning Molly’s mom had ran out of creamer for her coffee and I offered to go pick some up from the grocery store a few blocks down. Before I left everyone was in the living room watching tv, me and Molly were cuddling under a blanket at the end of the couch (it was an L couch). When I came back I found that O had taken my spot under the blanket with my girlfriend, completely cuddled up with her. I had to sit next to her mom for a good while before her dad pointed out that O and I had switched spots. After when we were walking to the park by her house M told me that they always cuddle like that and I didn’t really have anything to say to him. I don’t think in my life I had ever wanted to crawl out of my skin more.

Since then we talked and she knows that I felt a bit off about the whole situation. Apparently her and her brothers had always been very close and her family is very physically affectionate which I don’t doubt. She and her other brothers were also hugging and leaning on each other but something about the way O was affectionate with her just sat different with me I guess.

I was thinking for a while that it could’ve just been a different family dynamic that threw me off. For reference, I have 2 sisters, one of which just got married and is expecting her second child in October and my other one is starting elementary school next month. After a while of kinda ruminating on the situation I settled on the fact that I could’ve just been used to not being physically or emotionally close with my siblings.

Over the summer we decided to spend it with her family, as you could imagine my family dynamic is slightly dysfunctional. It was overall (just like meeting them for the first time) a good time and I had tons of fun but again O was doing things that just rubbed me the wrong way.

We went to the beach a few times and one of the first times we got out there her and I were wading out into the water and when I turned around O (SEEMED TO BE) looking at her ass until I looked at him and he started looking elsewhere. Again, I could be paranoid or have some unknowing controlling streak in me but I swear I caught him a few other times while we were on the boardwalk and I couldn’t bring myself to say anything because how the hell would that go over? It just left the worst taste in my mouth and I’m still trying to rationalize it because he kept complaining that he left his sunglasses (which were prescription, I didn’t even know that was a thing and I have to give it to him that’s pretty cool) in the car.

Since then I’ve just felt slightly off around her too. It’s not like I wanna break up with her but sometimes I’ll be doing something with her and then I remember catching him looking at her like some random chick and not his sister. I don’t even know what to make of it anymore. I don’t think “being a bit too close to your brother” is a viable reason to break up with someone. I’m just at a complete loss and I keep trying to bring it up to her and she’s gotten more irritated each time and repeats that she’s simply affectionate with her family. Even when I brought up the whole beach thing she brushed it off and said I was probably just imagining things.

Am I going crazy? And if I’m not, what the fuck am I even supposed to do?
