Inaugural Event: Brackenhurst Campus (Southwell, UK)

Laid in bed this morning around 7am, I was searching through the map to decide where to head this morning. Oddly, I noticed a pin at Southwell and thought; "hang on, Southwell doesn't have a parkrun!"

Turns out today was their inaugural event, so I jumped in the car and headed over.

There was a great atmosphere on site today, everyone celebrating finally getting the event off the ground. I've never seen so many marshalls in one place!

The course starts in the Nottingham Trent University campus, which appears to be an old stately home/park site, before heading out over farm tracks. It's a bit of an odd route with 3 spurs, but has some nice scenery and it felt relatively short (although distance was correct). The final section brings you through a traily woody section before finishing on the lawn outside the main building.

There was only really 1 complication; a gate that wasn't fully open on the first section of the course meant we all had to slow to a walk and go single file, but the efforts of the volunteers and atmosphere on site more than made up for this.

So if you're in Nottinghamshire soon, make sure to check it out.

Ramathon - Road Closures

Good morning all,

I went out this morning to find a lot of road closures on the routes around the City Centre. Whilst I expected to, I didn't know which because we haven't received any literature at all from the race organisers.

Does anyone have a photo of the planned closures they can share?

We live centrally to the city, so are quite impacted by them.

Bone Conducting Headphones

Excepting Shokz, which bone conducting, open-ear headphones would you recommend?

I've had a bad experience with the quality of Shokz being substandard twice now; the original purchased pair stopped working after 10 months and their warranty replacement stopped working after 3 months.

Whilst other people have had different experiences, I'm now keen to avoid Shokz as a brand because I simply don't trust them to last.

Weekend Sports Clubs

Hi all, bloody good weather isn't it?

I'm in my late 30s and I moved to Derby fairly recently but, as my work takes me all over the country during the week, I'm struggling to socialise and meet new people. However, I am almost always in Derby during the weekends.

Whilst unfortunately I gave up the booze a few years ago, I do like to get involved in sporty activities; I'm a runner and already take part in parkruns.

What other sporty clubs or societies should I be connecting to, in order to expand my local social circle? Many that I've found so far seem to meet mid-week only.

I'd love to be enjoying today's weather with some friends, but they all live a little far away to do so, so I'm wanting to meet new friends nearby through these clubs.

Filter by Surface Type

A quick question that I think I know the answer to, but want to confirm.

Is there any way to filter events in the app by surface type?

I'd like to filter to mud/trail events for myself, but I can see how such a filter would also be useful for wheelchair users to know which events are accessible too.

Whilst never the greatest, they at least used to be good.

Travelling intercity today, however, the seat reservations aren't functioning, both trains have been delayed, the WiFi has been terrible. Most toilets are locked out of use.

I upgraded to first class, only to find they still make you pay for soft drinks and the sandwich that was served on the journey back was stale.

When and why did their standards slip so much?
