Petal is a grower

After my first listen, my suspicions were right. When the album was announced, I thought it was going to feel rushed. She was doing wicked and preparing for the tour. I definitely got the vibe that she was going to be focusing on acting, and putting music on the back burner. I think if she got an Oscar for wicked part 2, she'd definitely would not be on tour right now. So I knew Petal was a rush project. After my first listen, I think I'm right. Its inoffensive, uninteresting and generally ok. It's does confirm that pop ariana is a thing of the past. If you like her really poppy music, just keep listening to Sweetner. Its not as interesting as Positions. However you feel about Eternal Sunshine, you'll have a similar feeling. It's a safe album. "Hate that I made you love me" is the standout track. I liked some songs and I can see Petal doing really well.

Did anyone notice a shift

One of my favorite details about this show was the subtle shift mid season. In my opinion, episodes 1-3 was everyone's projections onto Ruben. It wasn't explicitly stated but things were focused on how everyone saw Ruben. For instance, the attack in the kitchen centered Niall and his morality struggles with how to handle that. We see Ruben act out and the fear he caused everyone. Episode 4 is the turning point. One of the main points of their argument was, both men were equal partners in the relationship. No one was better or worse (especially from an outsiders pov) because they were both there. During the kitchen scene, an outsider would give both men blame. Then episodes 5 onwards, we see Ruben's perspective. The scene at the prison in episode 6 is the best example of this. Ruben was able to call out Niall on his BS, showing the audience that he was paying attention too. He was offended that Niall didn't lean on him during his struggles with his identity. He wanted to help Niall like Niall helped him. Like I said, it's a vibe shift so I hope someone else gets what I mean.

To the men who watch, does it hit harder?

I really enjoy Half Man, as well as Baby Reindeer. I think Richard Gadd is an amazing writer and storyteller. The characters in Half Man are well written and complex. A common theme through Half Man (and Baby Reindeer) is male trama and manhood. I am a woman and do not have a deep connection/understanding of that. But I still like the show and relate to the characters in other ways. For the men who watch the show, does the it hit harder having that connection? Does it approach manhood in a realistic way?
