Photos: Anti-Trump protest at Clinton Square, Syracuse — October 9, 2026 (approximately 2,500 people) Part 1/2

Proud of my city today. It was so nice to stand alongside my neighbors and be reminded that we’re not alone in this.

I’ve tried to be considerate of people’s privacy in sharing these photos, but I also think the people who showed up deserve the credit. We were in a public space, and I’m sharing these in appreciation of everyone who came out.

Part 2 of photos coming soon.

If anyone pictured would prefer to have a photo taken down, I’m absolutely happy to do so.

Salmon River- Redfeild NY

The water was quite low in this stretch of the river. I am curious about the yellow diamond shape. To me it looks like some sort of architectural element from a building. It was not very heavy at all. Also curious about the red one with the white circle. Natural?

Bernhart solid MCM 70s Bookshelf pair

$70 for the pair! Again, awful time bringing them upstairs (moving soon to a bigger place)

One has a sectary desk and drawers, the other has cabinets.

9 foot wide Chinese silk embroidered screen

I paid $70 for it at an estate sale, it was an awful time to get it off the wall and into my tiny apartment. Worth it! (I'm moving soon)

Flowers bloom only for them (September 9, Upstate NY)

I was shocked to see these flowers blooming by this headstone in September. I live in NY state and have never seen this. Obviously it gets incredibly cold here in the Winter and Fall. No other headstones in the nearby area had any signs of flowers. It felt pretty fortuitous.

----------------------------------------------------------
After some research I have found out that this specific type of flower is not a Crocus but a Colchicum, Both an Ancient Cure and a Lethal Poison. It is also Symbol of the Afterlife of, resurrection, hope, and life after death. The flower marks exactly where a loved one was buried generations ago where headstones and crosses sink and disappear they keep multiplying underground.

The "Cemetery Flower" Legacy: They are very common in older 19th-century churchyards, historic parks, and older homesteads. They keep multiplying underground even if the site becomes overgrown or forgotten."

Symbol of the Afterlife: This strange cycle—blooming beautifully right when the rest of nature is dying for the winter—made it a profound symbol of resurrection, hope, and life after death for grieving Victorian families. [1, 2, 3]

Historically, families planted perennials on graves because cemeteries lacked modern irrigation, landscaping budgets, or staff to water plants. Plants had to fend for themselves. [1]

  • The Ancient Cure: It is one of the oldest recorded botanical remedies in human history. Mentioned in ancient Egyptian texts and named after the ancient, mythic region of Colchis (the land of sorcery and poisons in Greek mythology), it has been used since ancient times as a highly effective anti-inflammatory treatment for gout.
  • The Lethal Poison: Because it stops cellular division, ingestion of the plant or its corms can be fatal. It was famously used by Catherine Wilson, a notorious 19th-century British serial killer, to poison her victims. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Botanists and historians actually use flowers like Colchicum, Yucca, and historic Peonies as living archaeological markers. Even if a wooden cross rots away or a headstone sinks completely into the dirt and vanishes, a patch of colchicum will continue to faithfully burst out of the lawn every single September, marking exactly where a loved one was buried generations ago.

Deep in NY State Forrest Land

Perched close to the shore of a beautiful expansive lake. I had been hiking for hours before I spotted this slightly off the path. I am an avid hiker and have never seen this on state land

Shout out: Creating Community

I hope it's ok that I've posted this. I wanted to give a huge shout out to this family who has managed to take their regular size front yard and turn it into a community space. I enjoy passing by it on my walks!
