AITA for asking my future roomie to split the internet bill
Some context: I work from home and my friend does not. She is currently traveling, but we will be looking for a place together when she gets back. We were on the phone the other day when she told me she plans to get a flip-phone after she returns from her trip, so she won't be using any internet. I guess she was throwing this out there to let me know she doesn't plan on splitting the cost of an internet bill bc she also mentioned that if she needs to use her laptop, she can just go to a cafe and "it isn't like (she) has a tv or anything". The thing is, yes, I'm the one bringing a nice tv to the table, but I doubt she will NEVER use it to watch anything. Even if I didn't work from home, internet access is something I would keep for convenience sake.. I guess this has thrown me off guard because it feels like an odd hair-splitting over what will probably amount to $25 monthly on both of our ends. I can understand where she's coming from, but splitting bills is part of why I'm even considering a roomie situation (I've been living alone for four years, most of my 20's) and I feel like this has already started a weird complex within me where I'll feel I have to tell my roommate "no, sorry, you can't use the tv" or "I know it's raining and everything, but you insisted on not needing internet, so I guess you'll have to put a coat on and hit the coffee shop". That's so awkward!!! I'm not sure how to navigate the conversation to begin with?? Am I just being a spiteful brat? I don't want to be put in the position of paying the entire thing alone while she and her friends connect as they please, even if it is for only an hour. I suppose if she truly never uses it, then why should she pay..but I'm worried this will not be the case and I'll be put in a very awkward situation.. AITA???
