Monash Malaysia Medicine → Australia Internship: How Realistic Is It for International Students?
I’d really appreciate replies from Monash Malaysia medicine seniors/graduates, especially international students!
Hi everyone! I’m an international student from Myanmar and I’m seriously considering applying to the Monash Malaysia medicine program.
My biggest concern is what happens after graduation.
As an international student, I understand that I can’t stay in Malaysia to complete housemanship, and realistically, returning to Myanmar for internship is extremely difficult for me given the current situation there. So, my main goal would be to secure an internship/foundation position in Australia after graduating from Monash Malaysia.
I’ve read about the Australian internship priority system and understand that Monash Malaysia graduates fall into a lower priority group compared with Australian domestic graduates. I’ve also seen that Monash itself says an Australian internship is not guaranteed for international students.
So I’m hoping to hear from people who actually know how this works in practice:
- How realistic is it for a Monash Malaysia international graduate to get an Australian internship directly after graduation?
- If someone is willing to take literally any Australian internship position, is it realistic to expect to get one?
- Are there particular states that are more accessible for Monash Malaysia graduates?
- Have recent seniors/graduates managed to make the transition directly from Monash Malaysia → Australian internship?
- If you were in my situation, would you consider Monash Malaysia a reasonable choice if Australia is essentially the only realistic destination after graduation?
I’ve seen people say that the chances can be fairly high if you’re willing to go rural/remote, while others make it sound extremely uncertain. I’m wondering what the reality is based on recent graduates’ experiences.
I’m not looking for reassurance — I’d really appreciate honest answers, even if the answer is “don’t choose Monash Malaysia if you have no backup country for internship.”
Thank you!!
