For anyone who feels a bit single today...

See, I’m not the kind of person who watches YouTube motivation videos or shit like that, but I found this channel, and it’s different, trust me. This video in particular had a big impact on me, it’s just made so well... So, if you have 15 minutes to spare, I’d really recommend watching it!

Some parts aren't relevant for us the gay boys, but most of it is.

Hidden analytics and more in ADNS 2.1, a native, free NextDNS app for Android!

Hello everyone,

After months of beta testing, I launched ADNS, a completely native NextDNS android app without a single web view, two weeks ago, and it has been great.

ADNS has every single NextDNS dashboard feature implemented natively (excluding account management features like changing password/email), but with this update, it add features that even the NextDNS dashboard doesn't have!

This update adds a few stats features:

  • View the full lists of stats categories. While the NextDNS dashboard limits you to the top items of the category, with ADNS, you can view the whole list, no limits.
  • Get graphs and advanced analytics. This update adds customizable graphs for certain categories, so you can see how your usage change over time. This isn't available in the dashboard.
  • New categories that aren't available in the dashboard: Query types, IP versions, and Protocols!
  • Clicking on every stats item to get detailed metadata and tracker insights.

Get it from here: https://github.com/eyalm2000/adns

Edit: no, this is not vibecoded.

ADNS - Private DNS and NextDNS Manager - FOSS

GitHub: https://github.com/eyalm2000/adns

ADNS has multiple use cases:

1. Private DNS Client

Use ADNS as a fast Private DNS controller when you want direct control over system DNS without using a VPN. Requires a one-time Shizuku or ADB setup.

  • Turn Private DNS on or off with a single tap
  • Apply automatic Wi-Fi rules for specific networks
  • State notifications so you can quickly see whether DNS is active
  • Quick Settings tile for instant toggle access
  • Choose your preferred provider and filtering options when supported (ads, trackers, malware, adult content, and safe search)
  • Supported providers include AdGuard, Cloudflare, Google, Quad9, OpenDNS, NextDNS, and custom hostnames

2. Native NextDNS Dashboard

Use ADNS as a full NextDNS app when you want to manage your account without opening a web dashboard. Requires a NextDNS account (no Shizuku or ADB needed).

  • View and edit every NextDNS profile setting right from the app
  • Inspect NextDNS logs and detailed statistics
  • View NextDNS setup guides for all devices and platforms
  • 100% native Android experience - no WebViews involved

3. NextDNS + Private DNS Integration

Use ADNS to link your NextDNS account directly to your device's DNS settings and keep both sides in sync. Requires a one-time Shizuku or ADB setup.

  • Seamless integration with all ADNS features (Wi-Fi rules, notifications, and Quick Settings tile)
  • Automatic NextDNS setup handled entirely for yo
  • Custom device name support (appears in your NextDNS dashboard, statistics, and logs)
  • One-click NextDNS profile switching that updates the system DNS settings for you

ADNS is out of beta! A fully native, open-source NextDNS app for Android

I'm super excited to announce that ADNS is out of beta and officially stable! I've been dropping beta updates for a while now, and thanks to the amazing feedback from everyone on this sub, the app is in a much better place. Huge thanks to everyone who helped test it.

Android has never had an official NextDNS app, and existing third-party options are basically just WebView wrappers. ADNS is built completely natively from scratch exclusively for Android. Think of it as the NextDNS web dashboard rebuilt ground-up for mobile, meaning a fast, snappy UI and a native experience.

Features

ADNS includes every single NextDNS profile management feature:

  • Edit all Security and Privacy toggles, manage your Denylist/Allowlist, etc.
  • View detailed stats and analytics graphs.
  • Inspect, filter, and search your DNS logs.
  • Access setup guides for all your other platforms and devices.

>Note: Everything related to profile management is natively supported. Account-level settings like changing billing or password aren't included because the NextDNS API doesn't support them.

If you want to go deeper, ADNS can control your device's system Private DNS settings via a one-time Shizuku or ADB setup (completely optional, but keep in mind the setup is kind of complicated). Once set up, you get:

  • One-tap Private DNS toggling via app, Quick Settings tile, or notification.
  • Automated Wi-Fi rules to automatically disable Private DNS on specific networks.
  • One click profile switching - ADNS handles the profile ID and device name for you and updates your settings with the exact hostname.

Security & Privacy

Security is one of the main reasons I decided to make this whole thing open source. The full source code for ADNS is available on GitHub.

The app also supports Reproducible Builds (RB). That means an independent server (in this case, IzzyOnDroid) compiles the app directly from the source code and compares the output binary against the release APK on GitHub. If they match 100%, the build is reproducible - proving the APK you download was generated line-for-line from the exact public code. So if I were sending your credentials to some magical secret server, you'd see it right there in the source code (spoiler alert: I don't). The RB status for this release is green: IzzyOnDroid.

ADNS has zero ads, zero trackers, and zero telemetry. If you log in with your credentials, they are used a single time to generate an API key. Your password is never saved, and your API key is stored encrypted directly on your device.

I regret this so so much... Rant about my past crush

Sooo one year ago or a bit less I had this crush on my classmate. He was "straight" and I was closeted. This man flirted with me, asked if I am gay once (I said I no), and another time asked me if I wanted to go out (asked him- go out of the class? -that makes sense in my language. he said nevermind), constantly complimented my appearance and intelligence, sat next to me most of the time and even sometimes begged my friends to move so he could sit next to me. The list goes on, there is so much more than that. (It was all at school though, we didn't hang out just the two of us at all or even texted that much)

Apparently these were never enough signs for me to decide that he definitely likes me and I really didn't want to take the risk so I did absolutely nothing and didn't take things further yk. 4 months passed and I saw him with a girl who i thought was his girlfriend and just made myself forget about him. A few more months and I discovered she is a lesbian.

Now I'm on my summer holiday and haven't seen any of my friends and classmates including him for like a month and I'm starting to really get crazy lol. I have fantasies and crazy vivid dreams about him. The regret hits really hard. Like I don't even find him really attractive anymore but I still can't stop thinking about this whole situation

I'm sorry for the grammar English isn't my first language

New ADNS Beta Release (beta3)

(NOTE: If you are not familiar with ADNS, please refer to the original post, and optionally the beta2 update)

This one is a big update, so I'm gonna leave the full release notes on GitHub :) But the highlights are:

  • Control-only mode: You can now use ADNS without Shizuku or ADB if you just want to control your NextDNS profile settings without changing the device's Private DNS settings or messing around with permissions.
  • More NextDNS features: Many new NextDNS features have been implemented, including a Logs page, Setup page, and more. I think almost every non-account management feature is now supported, but let me know if I missed something!

One more thing: I've opened a Weblate project, so you can now help translate ADNS into your language.

This will be the last beta update for ADNS before publishing the official stable version! If you spot any small bugs or have feature suggestions, please open a GitHub issue. This will help me make the stable version perfect.

(Please note: Try to download directly from GitHub Releases for now rather than IzzyOnDroid, as the update won't push through GitHub on IzzyOnDroid until about 7 hours after this post goes up!)

My last crush was a big missed opportunity...

A few months ago I had a crush on this boy

which:

- asked me if I am gay. I said no

- constantly complimented my appearance and intelligence

- asked me if I want to go out in the middle of a random lesson. In my language this can mean both "to date" and "to exit" (the class) so i asked him "outside?" and he said "no nevermind" lol

- constantly glazed me in front of my friends and in the group chat

- argued with my friends so he could sit next to me

And I was too shy to start anything and I was scared he's straight😭😭 like come on

Migrating from hardcoded strings to XML values

Hello,

I have a Compose app that currently uses hardcoded strings, and I'd like to migrate them to a proper XML strings resource file.

I have over 190 string values. Is there any way to automate this process, or do I need to migrate them one by one :(

Thanks!

New ADNS beta release, a native Android client for NextDNS (beta2)

Hello there! I'm the developer of ADNS, a fully native NextDNS client for Android. (See the announcement post)

I was pretty busy this past month and couldn't work on the project, but now I'm free. Expect updates with new features and improvements every few days until we reach a stable, complete app.

In this update, I have implemented the most requested features:

  • More stats! The previous stats page was pretty basic, only showing blocked queries. Now the stats page shows everything available on the web NextDNS dashboard: devices, IPs, block reasons, countries, and more.
  • You can now set your device name so it will appear properly in NextDNS's stats and logs.
  • The issue with 2FA accounts is fixed! All accounts with 2FA enabled should now be able to log in smoothly.
  • And for the privacy-conscious/paranoid among us, you can log in with your API key, too!

I'm waiting for all your feature requests, complaints, and bug reports! Please open a GitHub issue for anything or just comment here.

NextDNS native client for Android - out now in Beta! (Free and open source)

I'm excited to announce that ADNS, a private DNS client with full NextDNS support, is out now in beta!

Unlike the popular unofficial NextDNS Manager app, it's not just a WebView wrapper. It's a fully native app built from the ground up, which makes it feel incredibly snappy.

Keep in mind that you will need Shizuku or ADB access to use the app. This allows ADNS to toggle Android's Private DNS directly from the app or via a Quick Settings tile. You get instant control without having to dig into your system settings, and because it doesn't run a local VPN, it has zero impact on your battery.

Since this is a beta, you might run into a few bugs. Please open a GitHub issue for any bugs, suggestions, or feature requests!

Lost motivation

I'm 14. Over the last month or two, I decided to learn Kotlin. Until then I had a little swe experience (mostly with c and Node.js), so Kotlin and Compose were challenging but fun. The basics clicked pretty easily and I started slowly working on a small open source project (currently 6k LoC).

A few weeks later, I published the first alpha through GitHub. Until now, it’s gotten over 100 stars and approximately 4,000 downloads. I was kinda proud of it because it was something I actually built.

Lately I've been working on a big update. The complexity grew, and I had to learn to fight between multiple Compose pages and make everything work seamlessly.

Today, just as an experiment, I decided to try the that Gemini 3.5 agent and asked it to design a statistics screen for me. I almost haven't used AI for my app until then because that's cheating. One minute later, I was staring at a beautiful UI screen.

It did so, so well.

Just for the sake of the game, I asked it to redesign my whole app in that style. In 5 minutes, the motherfucking agent wrote like 1.5k lines of code. The app looked so much better )some parts it messed up the small details, but most of the screens looked insanely good) And I did absolutely nothing.

I knew AI was great at coding, but when I tried to vibe code an Android app a year ago, it was terrible. Today is a completely different story, apparently

I already got rid of the AI code, but now I don't think I'll ever touch that project again. I don't want to use AI for this because it's all about my satisfaction and learning. But after seeing how fast AI can spit out a better version of my weeks of work, spending time on this app feels like a waste of time.
