I spent time in Ross Cameron’s chatroom

My ultimate take away is that he is promoting gambling, not informed trading or investing.

There is a way to “day trade” that combines both technical analysis and fundamental analysis of certain equities, indices or commodities. While the shorter time frame will inherently make it more difficult than say swing trading or long term investing, it is possible.

But this is not what Ross Cameron is promoting. He does teach some very basic technical analysis skills (which you’d be better off learning elsewhere imo) but ultimately he is teaching this in the context of trading extremely risky stocks where there is essentially a 50/50 chance a split second movement could go your way. John, one of the co-teachers in his forum, even explicitly says these are “garbage” companies. Ross, from what I’ve seen never refers to them as such and always frames it in a more positive way which is extremely misleading imo. Although to his credit, the books he most often references are gambling strategy books by Annie Duke so at least there is some implicit honestly there.

Also, “small account challenges” where you’re putting up 100% of your capital clearly promote an unhealthy form of gambling. You’re essentially playing roulette. Even if he’s not risking that whole 100% and cuts his loss on a knife… you’re telling me that most newbies are going to have this same wherewithal after watching a sizable loss because they entered a trade using 100% of their buying power? No, they become the exit liquidity as they martingale because they can’t stomach the loss.

This is all what it is and buyer beware etc etc except it is being promoted as “trading” and clearly targeted to people who may not know better and will very likely succumb to gambling. He also takes sizable losses from time to time (controlled imo for this purpose) so that people will think “Well, Ross loses too so me losing is fine”.

He’s fun. He has a positive, upbeat personality because he’s had some success at this. So do a lot of cult figures. In my opinion it hides something darker and I would not feel great about having made money this way. That’s his karma and struggle he will have to reconcile.

Is it possible to hold two jobs at the same time?

6 years of experience as a financial analyst in post award. I LOVE my job but the truth is I have extra time. I feel I could easily balance a second position especially if it were part-time. Has anyone done this?

Side note: there is a job site specifically for research admin that I’ve seen posted here before… can anyone link?

For small cap traders, have any companies you’ve traded intraday gone on to be viable long term buy and holds?

Just wondering how often this happens. Any notable examples of small cap or penny stocks that have gone on to be super successful?

Architect necessary for extensive remodel of existing home?

Have an existing home that needs extensive exterior and interior work. Since it is not a new home being built from scratch, is an architect preferable/still necessary or does it make more sense to go with a builder who has an in-house designer?

We have an opportunity to work with an architect/general contractor who would essentially function as project manager for the duration of the project. Their separate fee is not unreasonable (imo) but it is a considerable extra cost and someone who is helping with funding has the opinion that it adds an unnecessary third party and we should just work directly with a builder. Curious to hear thoughts.

Real time Gapper list gone?

The market-watch box used to show a real time gapper list. Anyone know where I can get something comparable, not fancy, just see what’s moving? (Without have to configure a bunch of parameters into a scanner preferably)

Is supplemental for Medicare necessary?

My mother is 74, widowed and receiving Medicare benefits for which she pays $61/mo. However, this means that hospital is $375/night, MRIs are $250, X-rays are $20, and pharmacy is not covered.

Her deceased spouse’s union (through which she receives pension) is saying that for an extra $174/mo they will cover all of the above. So, a total of $235/mo for health insurance.

Does this sound reasonable?
